Side armor m60

Is there any source justifying the odd armor layout for the side of the m60 chassis compared to the m48 (which has thicker side armor and a more logical layout) ?

Is this perhaps because the chassis hasn’t been re-modelled using the volumetric mesh system ?

Is somewhat accurate I’d say, although both tanks should be considered casted hulls meaning more variable milimeters equivalent of armor instead of specific milimiters in specific sections, this also happens with IS-3s’ turret, it’s cast but is somewhat between welded (with different milimiters in smaller sections) which I think is not accurate at all.

For the values, Btvt uploaded an article about early Cold War armor which also includes M60A1 main battle tank that might be useful for you for further clarification on the matter.

I’ll look into it thank you.

It definitely looks like an is-3 situation, I feel like the thickness should change progressively, not have a 36mm plate next to a 70mm one.
