Should we see the Strv 103 D come to the game?

It’s got the highest chance to get the Slpprj M/80, or M111, or DM23 depending on the nationality.
The Swedish Slpprj M/80 should technically get a higher Pen amount in MM due to increased barrel length by 8 calibers if I remember correctly, and if you understand guns, bigger barrel usually means a faster muzzle velocity. Seeing as it (thermal imager) supposedly uses the same system as the Strv 105, it should get Gen 1 thermals, though due to its gun and armor, I feel it will be made higher than 9.3, but you never know, Gaijin could be feeling a bit nice when they add it.

Yea depends if the NERA is made 100mm or 150mm on the ufp

Sure as long, as it is placed at top-tier. So i want have to deal with it.

If they make hullaim better 🥲😔🙁

Apparently the sole prototype is on display at Swedish Tank Museum Arsenalen (any Swedes here who could check it out?), and given its last century tech documentation shouldn’t be too hard to come by if Gaijin dug around a bit.
My guess is that it will get the m/90c like the strv 105, which would put it at 9.7 and folded under the 105, just like the previous centurion/103 pairs. Wouldn’t be surprised if it goes to 10.3 though if the ERA/NERA is really good. Top tier is a bit of a stretch, unless the devs pull a 500+ pen round out of the ether; basically no 105mm gun goes in top tier (except the AGS, no idea what its doing at 11.0 with less than 400mm pen)

Yes, well, I don’t believe it is displayed, but in the warehouse with the Strv 105, unless it is on display(I don’t have a great memory, but I do think the Strv 105 is on display). Not to mention the T-80U in Sweden gets a 442mm APFSDS, and that’s it, I think it performs okay. 9.7 BR is a non-existent black hole to 10.3, I think it would either be 9.3 or 10.3.

Edit: also, if your interested in the mechanics and schematics of the Strv 103, I made a post about the autoloader and a few other things I believe.

nope its not, not in the display hangar atleast

what picture is that

this is what Strv 103D looks like, i dont remember it having NERA. doubt its real in this picture either

That’s real, and it that photo was the test bed for a remotely controlled weapon platform based on the Strv 103 C. It was set to have two monitors, a thermal independent sight, which could be used as a gunners sight, and the standard gunners sight, possibly upgraded with thermals like the Strv 103 D.

Project fell through because the IKV91 you see next to it had a wire connected to the tank, which obviously cause mobility issues.

i meant the NERA, i dont think its real in that picture

I don’t see any indicators of NERA in that picture. But I have seen a pictures of what should be one with ERA on it. Could be a mockup, though.

ERA on a 40mm thick plate, wouldnt that be a bad idea?

Sweden already had obtained Blazer ERA from their defunct Centurion 104-105 tanks. It would have been real ERA, but you would have been able to see the gaps between the blocks going up the hull, this isn’t the case though. So it’s simple to say it’s NERA or Composite screens.

However, I have inquired to Arsenalen in Sweden about the Strv 103 D in their possession.

No idea, just what I read on a caption. Haven’t looked closer.

No, ERA on a 16mm aluminum plate is a bad idea, especially when it’s Kontakt-5, which is heavier and has much more force.

It says ‘ceramic based protection’ no model number given, but I can tell it was minimally a C spec because of the track type being the same as the Leo 2.

No. that photo features the Strv 103D prototype turned into a remote controlled tank experiment. It’s fairly confusing as to what the Strv 103D actually was, with the uparmored one mostly taking over the name. But most older sources refer to one with the new commander optic being the actual Strv 103D.

Whereas the one with addition frontal armor doesn’t really have a designation that I know of. Instead it has mostly co-opted the Strv 103D designation, it might’ve been part of the overarching project. Or it could simply just be an independent test for potential protection increases.

I’d still like to see either one, or both, or combined, the independent thermal optic would have added a lot of height, but it would have been well worth it, especially in WT, where you can have it up above the noel of the hill before you peek.

i am curious, is it known if the remote controlled 103D had thermals? i do not know this in regard

i realized, they are not the same vehicle

do you belive the ceramic protected strv 103 ended up as a scrap? may be the reason there is little to no info about this version. i could not find anything in the archives. hell, not even where the picture was taken

the.shadock.free.fr/Surviving_Strv_103.pdf these are the museum pieces that survived the scrapping, and i do not see the plate number 202121 there
