No, that’s just DM53 projectile w/Rheinmetall’s SCBD propellant. Why would they even change the name of the projectile when it’s fired from a different cannon?
A1 version is with the Insensitive scdb propellent.
DM63A1 did not see any major changes apart from a new primer(?). SCBD had become a standard issue propellant starting DM63s introduction into service back in 2005 if I remember correctly, DM53A1 rounds are refits of older DM53 projectiles with SCBD.
Yeah, had to download doc on my phone, not at home near my PC on the weekends. 1790 is for the practice round. A1 is for the dm53/63 rounds with added incendiary component apparently.
I thought the A1 designation were the shells with the frangible outter shell for enhanced post-pen effect on soft targets? Could be wrong tho, but I know those exist so i might be getting the designation wrong
Edit: looks like its the incendiary ones according to conraire?
It is hard to identify the exact pen, as it showed penetration of 220mm, 71.7 degrees at 2000m, which should deduce a pen equivalence of 700mm, but due to the apfsds being better at penetrating angled armour, it is thought of being 650-670, but a reminder this is at 2000m, so closer range it should still do about 700mm.
Challenger 3 TD should have DM63 but iirc the planned munition is “EKE” which I think is DM83 in the German designation but will probably have a different name in the UK arsenal. I beleive it was originally planned to have a new shell, but is just using the German new shell instead
