Should war thunder make historical sights for all tanks?

should the snail add an option for historical sights? I think this in not too much effort for gijain. I mean planes mostly all have fully modeled cockpits with avionics? why cant war thunder do something like that for tanks to help increase immersion and realism, such as historical reticles. also I understand some might prefer the cross recticle, so maybe it should be an option in settings to turn it off and on. and downloading sights is a pain in the ass and the in game reticle customizer is buggy

I mean your point scratches on 2 major “immersion and realism” topics simultaneously:

  1. Google which nation had the best scopes within WW 2.
  2. Gaijin kills immersion and realism (like 3rd person view, and terrain handling) on purpose; either to make the game playable for masses or to flatten technology gaps.

So if you measure wt by his advertisement “accurately modelled” a historical accurate sight should be the default setting for all vehicles.

sorry I don’t mean like the optical magnification for different sights per say. I more mean just the reticle shape itself instead of just a cross reticle. it would sacrafise any gameplay and could be optional

If you want immersion just ask to make this game as detailed as IL-2 sturmovik tank models,

Optionally like ground sights already are? Sure, but it a tall order for there’s, quite absurd, number of ground vehicles as is and good amount of them actually unique.

As alternative? WT Live have custom, including historical, sights. Not sure if they are compatible with current custom ones

Historical sights would be great in game (and can be added by the user themselves already i might add).

In terms of them being enabled as stock might be more difficult since some historical sights have better aiming capabilities in terms of range finding then others.
Thats probably also the reason they kept it even across all ground vehicles for so long to keep it fair.

Might be a cool feature for sim tho to have the historical sight linked to the correct tank!

Not going to happen
For simple reason
Certain nations historical inability to produce good sights
And one other nation that since advent of tanks has far superior sights

No, and should not, it’s a waste of time and a niche thing, personally I still play with the default cross sight which is better, gives me full information than a few lines and dots on some modern sights like the Leclerc’s. It’s a waste of time and War Thunder will never be a realistic game enough for such effort to be put and not being labeled as wasted time.

And also, some vehicle simply never were fully documented, specially their sights which most of the time, prototypes were used in perfect conditions and mostly with tools to make things quicker, some of which you won’t find even if you look for official documents except when it’s a prototype for a full production vehicle. At least I think it is.

Unlike avionics, tank, guns sight is barely a topic of most documentations, except when is a vehicle so mass produced people start documenting every single component. War Thunder is far from a realistic game and simply adding sights will not improve imersion, when for example, you are fighting a M109 howitzer in a Tiger II.

It’s just about the reticle not the sights itself.

There’s also no sight quality in War Thunder and the only difference is the magnification.

If tanks had less than 3.5x they automatically get 3.5x as the minimum.

Not true for most German WWII stuff

The majority of German vehicles had a 2.5x optic and those which had more already have that amount in the game.
Namely the StuGs, Jagdpanzers and all the big cats.

Yes, they should

Yes, we should get WW2 reticles in the sight customization settings, I get that some sights are easier to aim with than others but it really sucks the immersion out of the game when 1930s tanks share the same sight with 2020 ones.
