Ah yes, I should not be comparing a medium tank against other medium tanks, but against tank destroyers instead.
If you don’t see the difference between a StuG and a Pz IV which would clearly indicate one as being a TD and the other as a medium, I’d recommend visiting an ophthalmologist.
But in all seriousness, you can also compare the StuG’s against the T-34’s or Shermans at equal BR’s and the StuG’s would come off poorly there too. It seems to me that you’re making a case for TD’s being overtiered, not the Pz IV being undertiered.
Besides, the StuG III G at least doesn’t have that awful 50mm flat turret face, it’s much better armoured than a Pz IV is.
Another indication of this is the fact that they keep lowering the reloads of tank destroyers. Plus the low spawn point cost, plus the ammo box mechanic - all these are hard pieces of evidence that Gaijin knows they are under-performing. So of course a medium tank that’s forced to play like a tank destroyer also underperforms. I’m shocked that this is a point of contention at all in this community.
Of course all these bandaids have done very little to ameliorate the actual issue, which cannot be addressed, because it’s map design, and people prefer maps where TDs are largely redundant.
Yup, at these BRs Chaffee is just straight up better, as it has great reverse and can just run circles around many other tanks.
While indeed JP IV is an excellent tank and when faced from the front, a true nightmare, one quickly learns that the right way around is to shoot the track, if you can, load smoke, and just rush the bastard. It’s not a fail-safe plan, but generally, blocking a path is what TDs do best, and people never try anything smart. Just go forward and hope for the best.
A few games ago I sat hulldown in Tiger E, nobody tried using smoke but eventually Su-85M and Sherman jumbo duo appeared and attacked from 2 sides, and I died…
…then spawned Do-335B2 and killed them both, but that’s beside the point.
Tbh you can immediately tell when you’re facing a player with hands installed or not, even from the small things.
Yesterday on American Desert I ended up tracked in the open in the Tiger II Sla, staring at two T26E5 and a Bulldog. I prioritised the Bulldog because I didn’t need to aim for a weakspot and I thought, if I die, at least I’ll take one guy down with me. Killed him. So it’s me vs the two Jumbo Pershings.
They kept shooting my hull, and they had multiple opportunities to correct fire and get the turret. I shot the first of them and missed the MG port by a smidge. I thought, now he’s gonna angle away from me to stop me getting the shot right. No. Bro stood still. I got the MG port and sent his turret into orbit.
The other T26E5 which just watched me execute his buddy in the same tank at the same distance simply sat still, and I got him too, the exact same way. Suddenly you’ve won a 1v3 while leaving the turret exposed, which is the cardinal mistake of Tiger II gameplay.
Meanwhile on Advance To The Rhine a while back I lost a 1v1 with a T26E5 player so good that I literally couldn’t touch him. He knew exactly when to wiggle the MG port or the barrel out of danger, he was playing the way tournament players do in close range 1v1s.
GRB really are “random battles”. The variety of enemy skill levels you see, the fact that we have 32 players taking lots of micro decisions every second, means that shenanigans happen which would never fly in a more competitive environment. That’s a good thing! It means you can play a non-meta vehicle and get away with it! But it also gives people a false idea of actual vehicle competitiveness.
Regarding people dodging “just right”, in Air RB I sometimes encounter some dodging prodigies. Perfect timing, just the right direction. Seriously, every thing done right to reverse the situation, retain energy and shoot me down or force me to run.
I end up so damn annoyed, then it turns out dude is 45% WR absolute scrub.
Some BS erratic movement indeed does wonders. People seem to fire when they see their target is “getting away” but then it’s actually too late to fire thanks to desync, lag and whatever.
But sometimes absolutely horrible players perform feats of briliance, haha.
I remember how in WoT you could block shots with your barrel and generally “facehugging” was an art. And I was pretty much Rembrandt at this one BS trick. Good old times.
Never got anywhere close to that level in WT. I actually kinda suck.
But I 100% agree, that people actually playing it smart can be super deadly, even if they are not the best aimers etc.
On the other hand, I watch a video of Spookston: he is exposing his entire side, fires at KV-1S, bounces. KV-1S continues to sit behind some mound waiting for better times. And VK generally moves glacially slow unless the direction is just forward. But no, lets wait and see.
Anyway, in Composito I was able to smash some real tryhards in KV-1Zis and KV-1E/B. They had full bushes. But I had speed, stabiliser and way faster reload + less obvious weakspots.
They were good, kills in double digits. But when 1st shot hits the breech via below-the-barrel shot on KV-1Zis, it’s game over and there’s little KV can do. Just like little 1b/e can do when it gets tracked then rushed and shot in driver’s port (after some bush cleanup using MGs, because why take risks) while on the move.
In same situations Pz IV would have died, as it would not even be able to leave cover.
So u basically want a extremely inferior tank that can barely stand a chance against a similar tank at 4.7…to face Tiger H1/Panther D, Jumbo/T1E1 (90) with a 90mm cannon, IS-1/T-34-85?
Bet u didn’t even try to play it at 4.7, it’s balanced at 3.7, cuz if it isn’t: Tiger II 7.0/7.3, Leopard I 8.3, Kpz-70 10.0, Begleitpanzer 57 10.0, and i could keep moving up tanks all day…
By what insane logic is IV H 4.3 material when KV-1 Zis and pay2win KV-1 is 4.7, when JP IV is 4.3, while IV H is getting roflstomped by most SPAAs from the front.
At 3.7 and 4.0 there are already better tanks.
Want to move Pz IV? First of all, IV H is not better than G, especially since it loses smoke.
2nd thing - all the superior tanks should go up too. But then other BRs have to go too.
Who the hell even has problems vs Pz IV at 3.7? Seriously, anyone? Move Japanese tanks down, not German tanks up.
When Jumbo was 4.7, it was OP as … and without volumetric, it was actually killable.
Current live WT servers cycle permanently maps which favor either stabilized shermans or more mobile/magic angle T-34 tanks.
Pz IV would be great, if at least 1/3 maps would favor long range. Unfortnately almost all maps favor close range combat, which is why Pz IV is just bad. Secret solved.
If german players cant stand a chance, it doesnt mean the tank cant. I myself grinded at the time when IV H was 4.7 :/
And i just recently tried them with 5.0 lineup, work pretty well. “Pretty” considering their BR must be 4.3. Tanks that focus on firepower dont suffer on higher BRs.
Yes, long awaited.IS-2 at 6.7 while Tiger 2 is same 6.7 is ridiculous.
I do so vs Stug III G too. When I miss, I usually hit the shittyass early mantlet and score a 1-shot kill, lol.
The downside is, German tank actually has a chance to win, though M4A2s weakspots are not exactly bigger than the muzzle brake, so there’s that.
aja… and obviously a tank with bad mobility and bad armor for 3.7 is fair at the 4.3 just cuz it has “good firepower”…
as i said, Germany has tanks with amazing firepower in low BRs, and that’s OK cuz it’s a characteristic of Germany (they always had better technology than any other nation), and removing that characteristic by “moving up a tank that doesn’t suffer cuz it has firepower” is the biggest BS i have ever heard.
it’s like saying T1E1 (90) deserves 6.3 cuz it has “good firepower” when in reality it has bad mobility and armor (basically american IS-1 with better cannon).
nothing more to say…if u’re that kind of person that believes the Tiger II should be 7.0 then i can fairly say u aren’t a smart person when talking about BRs…
i checked ur account and u literally own KT 10.5cm, there’s absolutely no way u can say Tiger II is comparable to the KT 10.5cm which actually sits at 7.0, u MUST be RAGEBAITING.
Japanese tanks… Chi Nu II 4.3 premium maybe has maybe bit better gun handling and the gun itself is better (more angled pen, which plays a role vs T-34 and Sherman) and bigger explosive filler.
Is it enough for the BR difference?
Dunno. I just find Pz IVs extremely clunky.
Chi To Late is also way more mobile and has more armor which makes a difference vs autocannons, Pz IV gets slaughtered by 40mm SAPI.
, I feel confident in Chaffe to take on any of the Pz IV family.
I feel fairly cofident in M4A2 taking on Jp IV.
Balance at low tiers is all over the place.
I hear how VK is “broken”, but Su-85M is apparently fine, lol.
