Only if it has two APFSDS to choose from, and HEATFS isn’t that bad. You get APDS as a Rank 1 modification, which performs well.
My experience with APDS is “SHELL SHATTER” on a slight angle and “NON-PENETRATION”. Once i nonpenned a xm246 thats how bad APDS is.
I use the same shell on the Type 74, and it is absolutely great. If you are non-penning, you are hitting extremely steep angles.
aka, skill issue. seriously no problem w/ later APDS
If it only have one APFSDS and other shells(and also don’t have APDS), the APFSDS should be stock
If it has another shell, then the APFSDS shouldn’t be stock. If you are actively struggling with later HEATFS or APDS then start flanking instead. These shells are fine.
If it has TWO APFSDS, then I can see an argument for one being stock. But not at Rank 5 or 6.
Maybe APFSDS should be a tier 1 or tier 2 modification so its easier to get because all the enemies i see have APFSDS.
Whenever i flank i get annihilated by those overpowered SPAA or some player using a overpowered vehicle like the Turm III
I’m flanking at 8.3 (which is where all the OP SPAA and Turm III sit) and you just need to be more aware, or take a longer/obscure flank route.

Rank 5 is fine and Rask 6 have chance to be uptier and face tanks with NERA or ERA,at that moment HEATFS are useless.Just image 400mm pen HEATFS face T-62M,T-72AV or even T-80UD
And in the past many tank have stock APFSDS and gaijin removed them for “balance”
Just flank. Or fire in the gaps of ERA. No vehicle in game has total ERA everywhere. Shoot the barrel and flank them, shoot their track and run, etc. etc. There’s lots of ways to take a fight with ERA tanks. I don’t need to imagine facing ERA w/ HEATFS because I’ve done it because I actively play the game.
Maybe i feel more pain because i play GAB main,there are less chance to flank in AB.Many times when i have to face ERA tank of something has a high CE during the stock grind,I may think “if i already have APFSDS ,that guy will die”.Then i image gaijin changed the stock shell and everyone got stock APFSDS, imo that will have a better balance and make most players more comfort.
Some tanks used to get APFSDS as stock but others did not.
So when people complained that it wasn’t fair, the snail agreed…and gave everyone stock HEAT-FS.
They basically evil genied the community’s wish.

Please tell my M60s and M1s that they get APFSDS as a default round, they’d love to hear it.
Until then, maybe learn a little bit more before you say something that wrong.

Stock grind should get drastically changed. Back in the days u where able to play 30 games to spade a tank and usually had a default APHE. Now u need Hundrets of Games to just unlock usefull ammo.
Wanting stock APFSDS at 9.0 is crazy. You’ll do fine with M392A2 and HEATFS until you get the DM23. I mean I really wonder what you struggle to pen at this BR as everything can be penned by even WW2 tanks. I can see struggle with T-72 and T-64, but I mean you can easily counter these tanks.
OF-40s are in my opinion just better Leopards.
I feel stock APFSDS should only become a thing 10.7+ when it actually starts becoming a very hard requirement for penetration.
You wont even find that much composite at 9.0, so just use HEAT to be honest until you get the DM23.
Ive been thinking and maybe making APFSDS easier to research would be nice. Instead if it being a tier 3 modification it could be a tier 1-2 modification. It already takes awhile to get tier 2 modifications so putting APFSDS in the tier 2 modification feels like it makes more sense then tier 3.
And, conveniently, that was a major buff to the one nation that slathers their tanks in ERA to a much greater degree than anyone else… hmmm.
