Thats an issue of compression.
You cannot just ram it up there and hope for the best
its HMD agile eagle. EJ kai it at 12.3 and it only got 9L, not a notable improvement especially when considering F-4S can equip 6 sparrow instead of 4.
Have beaten a few F16s (bad players, but still) with the F1 using cannons without AAMs, not sure how folk are losing to mig 21s. And I’m abysmal at air to air.

You’re overlooking the ej kai also has the F16 radar set
(It is arguably over BRd right now but its due to compression)
The F4S has an inferior radar to the ej kai by a sizable margin.
4 aim7Fs on an F16 radar set sre far more likely to land than 6 on the f4s radar set.
Then ofc the 4 x 9Ls help massively compared to 9H
Exactly my point the mirage f1C is not a bad airframe.
Back when it dropped before it got buffed over the past 3 years it was a pretty poor airframe like it wasnt good.
Now but as far as third gens go its pretty solid.
Mig21s cant touch it if you use it properly aka dont just try turn with them.
Same as f5’s you can out energy them too if you play it right cause the f5 has a far narrower Margin of retention…
Can even beat f4es and most 12.0s
I really believe HMS defeat radar quality below 13.3, the flexibility defeats track quality in my eyes since I don’t treat sparrow like AMRAAM or Alamo ER.
You can be a prick by turning with them whilst dragging them vertically with a shallow rate of climb, it infuriates the lil beans.

Regardless of what you believe, tbe EJ kai radar is far more difficult to notch, break lock and sometimes get past tbe headon with.
The F4S while a great phantom still struggles to get and maintain that lock compared to the kai
As well as that, 4 x 9L is also a massive boom
if you can make EJ kai not get lock in the first place, you win. you can make F4S out of position and its still gonna sling you.
F4s out of position is less likely to lock and sling than an eh kai its radar scope is not only smaller but weaker.
Now we are off topic man
HMD for F-4J/S is borderline useless due to fact that it has no missiles that can take advatage of it

Exactly my point, hell on the F4J it struggles to even get a lock the ACM mode is more reliable xD
EJ KAI also has the longer nose and nose mounted gun
I find is useless on F-4S (and i imagine its not gonna be much different on F-4J) due to fact that
- its IRs are rear-aspect only + have low peak G pull; these need to be lead as much as possible and as such theres no feasible scenario where HMS would make any significant difference to hitting the target
- sparrows are not gonna hit anyway in any scenario where they are launched at close range because the target will sooner break the lock before the missile can intercept it
Not to mention that if you find yourself in situation where you need to use HMS on Phantom in dogfight you already made several mistakes beforehand to end up in such situation anyway.
At long ranges any plane that does not have HMS will simply be able to lock the target in standard ACM mode anyway.
Only scenario where HMS on Phantom is advantage is when its long range shot against group of enemies and you want to lock specific one.

Aim9H in the f4s are actually pretty decent tbh man but yeah the situation does change at all they need to be led same as almosy IR missiles.
Exactly and situations where you can HMD you still have to point the plane at the general direction of the enemy to get a solid solution.
Cant off bore it, plus the aim7F on the ej kai actually can be fired in a better crank position due to the radar scope being wider.
Dont get me wrong i like them, but i know that they dont get any use out of HMS.

Decent doesnt mean they are great, theyre not suddenly gonna pull like R73s or that off the rails, theyre still worse aim9Ls on a paltform at 12.0
