Armour is nothing but your resitance to rounds. Survivability is your abilty to survive penetrating shots or hits in general.
The IS-3 has extremly good armour but is not survivable, because its weakspot is also the spot where you kill most if not all of the crew and most pens will kill you as long as you hit the crew-compartment.
The Marder has no armour, yet it is very survivable, because most pens will not kill more than 1 or 2 crew and you can only kill enough crew from very specific angles or by hitting the ammo. SO while you will constantly be penetrated you will usualy not die in 1 hit.
The Merkava has decent armour and great survivability, which is a great combination to have.
Not only do you resist some shots, those that do pen are not likely to kill you.
Survivability is superiour to armour. I don`t think many would disagree with that. And any who use my general definition can not disagree. As armour is an aspect of survivabilty, but survivabilty is not an aspect of armour.
As one should.
This is the reason I bring out Merkava Mk3 over Abrams in CQC environments more often.
Yes, the Abrams has more armor, but the Merkava has more survivability from my experience.
M1128 is also another example of survivability over armor.
Although I do for the most part agree with this, but I got to ask: when are you not killing a marder in one shot lmao? I’ve never not killed one in a single shot afaik. Did you mean Merkava? Lol
