Should the Challenger 3 get it's actual rounds like DM63A1, DM73 and Rh31?

It would be pretty nice to get stock DM63A1 instead of fictional DM33 in the Challenger 3

Since when does it have DM73 & RH31?

The only user nation of the former is Germany as of today, the latter hasn’t been purchased by anyone to my knowledge.

iirc DM73 is earmarked for CR3 but hasnt been bought yet for it due to the fact that they have only just built the first prototype

I’ll need a source on that chief. I’ve yet to see any mention of DM73 for the CR3, in fact i’ve only seen DM63(A1) and KE2020Neo (DM83).

probably am just misrembering tbh as theres not really much information out there on what ammo it will use. all we know is that it is using DM63A1 currently (as shown from trial videos of it firing) and is presumed to also use Reprogrammable HE. the only mention i can see looking now is of a joint venture by the UK and GER to develop a new KE penetrator listed in this source as EKER (Enhanced Kinetic Energy Round) which i presume is what you mean by DM83?

DM83 is a German development, EKER is likely just DM83 but made “British”.

Damn EKERs

yeah i was wondering why tf theyd buy DM73 if DM83 is likely to be available when CR3 enters service…

They might buy a small number for training/testing with the plan to use EKER and/or DM83 in actual service in a few years. They might also want to clear it for use with DM73 just in case.

seems kinda odd tho, the gun should already be cleared for it, and DM53/63/73 all use the same penetrator, just different propellants. Imo itd be a waste of money, but oh well.

Welcome to the MoD.

And the British like their paperwork

it had only used DM63 but we do not know what it will use in the production model

fair enough lol.

Doubt we’ll ever see anything higher than DM53/M829A3 in WT for NATO anyways tbh, mainly cuz as I previously mentionned, Russia has nothing left to compete firepower-wise for service vehicle, and gaijin already has to ahistorically buff russian armor and nerf western armor to “keep it fair”.

The only other option they have left is to start digging into the crazy soviet prototypes or the Armata. So we’ve probs just entered the era of sidegrades, and NATO stuff can be expected to keep being more and more egregiously wrong (such as the 2A7V’s armor, which gaijin literally admits to being “illogical” and continues to lie and gaslight the community about…)

Yeah, we wont get better shells, but the shells might get better. Like modeling ERA perforation or taking into account things like shell composition (which I dont beleive is currently factored in).

The better upgrade for the Challenger 3 would be to get a reload buff to at least match that of the Chally 2s

They’ll never model anti-ERA function of shells, thatd be a direct nerf to Russia and China. Same as modelling regenerative steering.

In the near impossible event of them modelling it, they’ll just buff the base armor for it not to matter.

Yeah… you are right about that. Best we can hope for is the reload rate buff and for them to fix some of the CR2 armour issues

The CR3 is not currently in high demand for new armor-piercing rounds (since the DM73’s armor-piercing rod is unchanged relative to the DM63/53, only the propellant and bore velocity have been improved) and it is more important to increase the loading speed to 5 seconds
