Should I Quit?

You gotta find the mode you love. And it took me 2 years ro become a avarage player. Try with russia, sweden will be difficjlt for you. And your not nad, you dint know were to gi in maps. Watch spartangaming. He shiws exellent spots in wt

One question: Why do you play War Thunder?
Just to become a pro player?
Or maybe because, despite all its flaws, it’s still a unique game that can give you an adrenaline rush with its many vehicles and exciting battles?
I’ve been playing WT since 2013 and I still love it.
I have my own clan and have made some good friends from all over the world.
Maybe it’s my age (almost 63), but for me, the game has brought a lot of positive things into my life.
Of course, there are also bad days when you quickly need a few new WASD keys, but those are pretty rare.
Try looking at the game from a calmer perspective, and come back when you’re curious about new things.

Constantly moving up will always eat away at your SL (I personally got premium but that’s a personal choice).
I decided that the best for me when I was starting out was to play a lineup at a BR that I was comfortable at and I could build up SL. Germany has a decent 5.7 to 7.7 lineup. Pick a light tank, a medium or heavy tank, and a SPAA and then one CAS if you want. That’ll reduce your repair/ammo, spading and crewing costs, and you’ll get comfortable learning maps and tactics. It might get boring but at least you have SL to play, which is the only way to get better.

Stop checking and just play. I played the 5.7 to 6.7 BR as I found that as good balance between ground and air for ground RB. SPAA are very effective to counter CAS.

Also being the top of the leaderboard with the most kills isn’t always the best team player. I’ve played light tanks and finished top and even got nukes, by simply capturing, causing damage to enemies, scouting, and repairing teammates. You’ll see players (and my team) who’ll capture a point and then move to the enemy spawn to camp, and meanwhile the enemy team is behind them taking points back.

Your approaching this a little too serious, it’s just a game.

I think it is how you think and approach the game, if you buy into the hype and overblown exaggeration that has been there since the launch day then you will end up frustrated, annoyed and disappointed.
It is just another game in the gaming sphere it is not realistic or a team game, it is just another time waster trying to extract money from you. It is here because many people cannot think of anything useful to do with their free time or just want mind numbing, vacuous entertainment.
Worrying about the pointless stats that are manipulated is only going to lead to frustration and annoyance, just play it as a time waster and not get too involved or engaged in it. Thinking there is something wrong with yourself when you have so little impact on a games outcome and when there is so much wrong with the game gives a little credence to people who advocate for some controls when such environments can lead to mental health problems.

I watched the first replay. What came apparent was that you did not see a moving target that was right in front of you in the middle of the map. You had the “sights” on that M22 twice, yet decided to look behind you - away from the M22. I’m not sure why you did that, but that was the shot in the back of the turret. You then cautiously advanced and for some reason drove out of cover to shoot at a target behind a debris pile, instead of being more cautious and that cost you your first tank, since you drove right out in the open. Instead you should have waited for them to drive forward. You would then maybe have had a side shot on them.

Second spawn was with a unarmored truck. You drove right in the middle of the action, which is suboptimal. A vehicle such as this needs more defensive play, a careful overview and a keen instinct for opportunity. Or else even MG fire will end you.

Third spawn was arguably unlucky, because you encountered a M3 Lee which has two guns and that was what killed you through the building - it shot you through the “window”. Could happen to everyone.
The third spawn is again a vehicle that needs careful consideration because of the long reload time and bad ballistics. You can’t drive it into action like a T34.

It is debatable if the fourth spawn was necessary at all, because the battle at that point had advanced to a point where your team was at a disadvantage anyway. But let’s go with it.
It looked like you were more cautious this time, but did the same mistake of leaving cover on the cap again - not optimal positioning. You were exposed to two sides after getting shot in the back and when concentrating on another M22, got shot in the back yet again and lost the vehicle because of this.
It’s a natural reaction of course, but since your turn radius lead you to drive out of cover, it cost you that spawn.

At this stage of the battle it is advised to anticipate the enemies movements so you can position yourself in a defensive position which allows you to deflect enemy fire, take cover and “ambush” passing enemies, because they were overrunning your side of the map. Like taking position on the west side of the map on high ground looking down the road.

Second Replay
You started with a truck again, which is okay, as long as you have enough pen. You then tried correctly to get into firing position, but did it too early, not close enough to the enemy. You then advanced out of cover and gave away your only life line in this vehicle. You might want to try backing up out of cover slowly to not expose all of the truck and crew or find a wall with a window to shoot through - or of course stay in position like you did. That way your gun would be on target and stable, giving you the chance to quickly take out the turret crew and gun. You can’t take any return fire at this BR at all.

On your second spawn I think I can start to recommend you a slower play style. Be more reserved and try to wait and identify, especially if you have trouble seeing moving targets - respectively trouble seeing things with your camera moving almost none stop. Not moving as much gives you the advantage of having the first shot, which in WT is pretty much the kill shot, if done right.

Third spawn was the best selection for this map in my opinion. You were able to identify the enemy behind the building, but again did not approach slowly enough. You have a slow turret. Advancing around corners needs consideration, such as turret position to “preaim” in case the enemy moves around the corner quickly, as has happened. That happened when you were on the move too, with a slow turret, forcing you to over correct by moving the tank and missing the enemy’s gunner, costing you that kill and damage to your tank.

Hope this helps in giving you a perspective.

Great breakdown 👍

Very good point. Rushing down the tech tree, higher BR/ Rank is often painful. Better to take your time to spade out the current vehicles you are using (spade = researching all modifications for the vehicle). Also, VERY helpful to pay for the “Expert Training” with SL’s on the vehicles that you like the most/ are best with. Another reason not to unlock every vehicle you get right away, especially if you do not have premium account time. Expert training takes a lot of SL’s, totally worth it imo, you can always unlock the new vehicles once you have “extra” SL’s.

You should quit, or at least take a break or change something about how you play (change nations, modes, BR’s or something else), if you are not enjoying the game.

there is really no other measure.

You’ve done well in air… A21A-3, A29B, P-51C-10.

You are indeed struggling with ground…
Ground is reliant on map positioning at the least… and beyond that is a lot of nuance.

German 8.0 is normal to feel suffer. By looking from your stats is really quite bad, and what my explain to this is maybe your playstyle is not suitable for you. Try study the map, and guess where the enemy might go, for me I more suitable for flanking playstyle due to ping at my country and the TT I play, so I will just hunt my target from flank and avoid headon. So since you already plays this game for 3 years, I guess you already got basic concept for most of the map, so just try to find out what playstyle is most comfort for you (can get kill and fun while stay profitable). Since you a german main I suggest you play german 3.7-4.0, that BR provide most of the playstyle in game (from LT flanking puma, to jack in all trade pz4h) test the BR out then you will has a clearer picture for the playstyle that suitable for you

idk if u got depression by a videogame or smth but i will just say the obvious:

if all of this failed to u, u must have done something wrong. i have played for the same 3 years and reached 2 toptier aircraft and unlocked most nations rank IV/V/VI in air and ground.

not wanna make u feel worse, but honestly all u can do is try even more, or ask a friend or a WT player how to play properly. i made a friend who at the start bullied me for crying too much in the lobby chat cuz i was so bad i couldn’t even admit i had a skill issue, but at the end he decided to ask me if i wanted him to teach me how to play, and rn i’m even better than him (lol).

if all that failed, again, u should try more, or if u have some kind of mental disability, just accept u aren’t going to have the same performance as a “normal” player (not saying that not being normal is bad).

u should try aviation a little more, it’s way easier than ground by a huge margine thx to the simplicity of the matches and how aviation works.
just look at my stats, i suck at ground but i’m a BEAST with planes (i even defeated one of my squadmates who’s from a very competitive squad that won multiple tournaments in a Kfir C.7 vs. his F-16A. 12 duels, 6 me 6 him).

trust me, 8.0 Germany SUCKS. Leopard I is not good anymore, not with Turm III and T58 around, or basically any stabilized tank, M48A2 is very good but nothing broken, Raketenautomat…should be removed, too good to be real, Raketenjagdpanzer is literally just an ATGM launcher with 2 ATGMs, which is amazing but again is not anything that breaks the game.

now this is a problem.
u’re not the only one who got exageratly bad luck when playing the game and had like 26k while flying I-225 and other planes, i wanted to kms fr fr.

france 5.7 is kinda hard, u must dominate their tanks and solid APCBC, it’s not a family friendly nation.
USA is mid at 5.7, not bad tanks, but not good tanks too.
Russia at 5.7 is really good, T-34-85 and IS-1 are amazing tanks.
it usually gets harder to grind when u reach high BRs, i’m playing 9.0 Russia and hell naw it’s not ez to grind for T-72A with T-62M-1 and BTR-82AT only.

Sweden has the worst lowtier ingame, even Italy has better lowtier, and i have tried italian lowtier and it’s seriously not as hard as the swedish lowtier.
Sweden gets better when u reach rank III with lots of good tanks and copy-pastes of other nations tanks like T-34 or Pz.IV.

if u played 3 years and didn’t get good, u probably have an issue/medical condition.
however, u must remember: it’s a game. u aren’t forced to play WT, even if it looks like u’re. dreams can wait, just enjoy ur stay in the magnific virtual world known as “war”, and take a break to play something else u like, i sometimes play Roblox (CTS/MTC/war-based videogames) or other things like No Man’s Sky, Armored Core 6, both Hollow Knights, some furry games, and even a fight-based videogame that uses spiders as main characters (yeah, spiders carrying guns and everything, lol).

srry if i extended this a little bit, i just like helping people😅
quit if necessary, stay if u want to.

Thanks for the specific feedback! I will try to learn from this.

Thanks for the advice! I find that even after 3 years and around 1k hours in the game I still end up in like the bottom 5 players every match, even in reserve tier. Like I’ve learned so much about tank weak spots and know the maps fairly well. For aircraft I know all about what each plane excels at and where they struggle. But even with this new gained knowledge I’m barely any better than I was 3 years ago. I struggle a lot with positioning and finding enemies. Even with map knowledge and after learning from other players, whenever I try to go to those ambush spot there’s always someone who beats me to it, or no enemy comes by for the whole match, or I just somehow mess it up and get killed.

Even with tanks right in front of me I still oftentimes miss them. And whenever I look around to see if the coast is clear, I don’t find anything. But the moment I leave cover or look away, BOOM I’m dead. I’m not really a depressed person irl but have yet to find players as bad as I am. I have friends who started playing a year ago and they all destroy me in 1 vs 1 and are much further up th grind than I am.

I really don’t want to quit because of how much I’m interested in the vehicles themselves and the time I’ve spent on the game, but I genuinely am out of ideas. I’ve tried every piece of advice out there but nothing seems to work. I’m still a blind player (even though I have 20/10 vision irl) who gets destroyed by noobs. I appreciate you being real and not sugar coating it like a lot of other people who try to convince me that 0.3 k/d and only reaching 8.0 after 3 years is normal -_-

Looked at your stats, I think you just need to buy premium at this point and play at least 3 games a day. Pick one nation (doesn’t matter) and just play it all the way through but I don’t think you have enough time in ground realistic to worry about being good or in game at all. Just have fun and see what your playstyle really is but based on your stats I would say you’re lvl 50 and 3 years means you’re not playing enough. War Thunder is a game built on addiction, money and grinding which is just the way it is at this point. I grinded multiple tech trees and realized I “wasted” time on USSR and Germany trees since I like fast agile and armor-less tanks that pack a punch. At the end of the day it’s a game that should be fun (it is for me) and a time sink, if your feeling is you’re wasting your time and pissed off then that tells you it’s just not your type of game. And it’s better to not waste time and make yourself unhappy over some pixels.
