I’m currently grinding Sweden’s rank 5 jets, I already have the SK60B (which I like) and the A28B (which is absolutely marvelous) and now I’m researching the J21RA. So I’m wondering wether I should play it or just skip it.
I tend to not be very difficult when it comes to playing awkward stuff, and I had a lot of fun with the J21As, but this one is much higher so I’m wondering if the jet engine is worth it
It’s extremely strong but the J21RB variant is even better, with more thrust, and a gun pod if you like those.
I’m not convinced the 8mm mgs will do a lot, will they?
But more thrust is nice indeed
i wouldnt recommend them because they have worse guns than their prop counterpart (prop has high velocity 13mm while jet has 12.7mm with lower velocity) and when i saw my brother play it, the wings ripped out when he was flying in a straight line at 100% throttle
the 8mm gunpods dont do much because using them is like spitting watermelon seeds at people. you may set one engine on fire or pilot snipe someone, but theyre only useful for destroying those ai artillery and lobotomizing the little maneuverability the plane has without it
It’s a tough battle rating…
Get a down-tier and you’re seeing P-51H and Yak-3u.
Get an up-tier and you’re seeing La-200 and f80C-10.
And the ever present MB-326K is always around, looking to ruin your day.
That said, I actually had a pretty good time in it.
I’ve only played the A21RB, but hell yes it’s worth it. As my introduction to jet aircraft I was taught some fundimental mechanics of air battles like energy trapping, keeping from overspeeding, and effective dogfighting methods(when I wasn’t getting my everything eaten alive by a P-51H-5, which can and will happen)
it is a bit crippling to play at times, because it has the airframe of a fat and overtiered-already 4.3 BR fighter, ass 12.7mm MGs that makes the P-26’s look godlike, and it’s also in an awkward BR and the plane is SLOW and will be run down by a P-51
the plane should be a lot better and imo it’s not anywhere near as good as the Yak-15 from what I can see, but ykw it’s fine, I’d give it a 7/10
The 8mm MGs are straight up the ones on the J8A and at 6.7 it will feel like tickling a tree to death, but the sheer number of them(8), means you can often get a pilot snipe or set some stuff on fire
Quick reminder for people: you can outclimb props by keeping your speed equal to their straight line speeds, and you can stay just out of reach of enemy gun solutions using your turn radius to bait faster jets into bad situations. You have the tools to fight anything that comes to you.
Haha yeah that thing seems quite strong for a 7.0
Oh that’s too bad, the 13mm of the prop version were fantastic
Anyway, yall gave me some pretty good advice, I’ll keep all that in mind when playing it.
What convinced you of this? It’s way ovsrtiered.
But anyway you should play the attacker version as others have stated. It’s an alright plane but you can rip in level flight so be aware of that.
Seems fine to me, the turn is fantastic and the average player is too bad for the lack of speed to matter so much. I’m having a lot of fun with it, like I did with the Ouragan
Noted
Well yeah it’s good oif you can get into a dogfight. The issue is you are usualy last in the battle and just cannot do anything if the enemy decides to just not engage with you.
I spaded both in the swedish tree and had 0 fun doing either. At least the A28B has usable belts. The finnish one does not. At least did not like a couple years ago.
Idk, haven’t even spaded it yet and I got plenty good matches… I already got a 4 kills match, which is a lot for me.
I find it fairly easy to get in dogfights because when they feel threatened most people just turn without thinking further
