Haha, the same thing happens to me. I’m literally playing so I can use the tanks in the test drive. I’ve been playing more games for a few weeks now, since I used to play two or three games in six hours. What I’ve decided is not to get so angry and just let things happen as they may. If the game decides I don’t have to kill in a game, I accept that and continue until I see if the game lets me kill in the next one.
Right now I’m using the British Br8.7, and I have to admit that the Olifant Mk1 and the ZT3A2, for example, work more or less correctly, while the Rooikat is a disaster thanks to the ridiculously low damage output it gets.
i think all shells in game are due for a buff except APHE and APFSDS.
APFSDS is fine as it is
APHE could do with a slight nerf imo to stop the nuclear APHE shells on smaller calibers, since it seems realistic that a 122 or a 128 APHE will wreck a tank but a 35 or a 57 completely nuking a tank is not realistic and good for gameplay imo
APHE doesn’t need a nerf tbh. What is the NUMBER 1 COMPLAINT with anything that isn’t APHE?
Inconsistency.
HEAT/APDS/AP/(Low Calibre) APFSDS is inconsistent
Why nerf APHE and not just make these rounds do consistent damage?
It wouldn’t really be a nerf to the APHE, it would be making them work under the principles of physics.
You’re absolutely right about that, absolutely all bullet models to a greater or lesser extent have a huge inconsistency in damage, in fact for some time now even the APHE have had a certain level of inconsistency, although it is extremely lower than the other projectile models.
It was a downright nerf.
But that’s the reality, developers can’t make a game and use realism only when it suits them.
Even „accurate“ APHE would still outperform AP in damage.
Especially since now 90% of APHE shells have their nose continue to travel through the tank.
Which is honestly a joke that Gaijin implemented it after refusing to fix the physics defying sphere of death.
Fixed APHE would combine the spall damage of AP with an additional fragmentation effect.
They should make artillery sized HE (152mm and beyond) just overpressure anything it hits. There are recorded instances of 122mm is2 HE blowing the turrent off of tigers with direct hits. I mean come on the crew of a Sherman m4a3 105 should be a pink mist after taking a 152mm kv2 HE straight to the hull! The shockwave from the blast should have killed all of the crew.
I think those are basically fairy tails.
A Tigers turret might get ripped off, from a large HE shell penetrating the hull top armor and detonating the stored ammo in the sponsons.
But tanks don’t lose their turrets just from a large HE round hit.
Then again, the impact forces are quite substantial 🤔
If we imagine a gun mounted rigidly inside a tank with no recoil buffers, the recoil would probably dislodge the turret.
So maybe I don’t know, if it’s true or not.
But have an AP round pen or just hit the gun mantlet of a tank, and it would probably jam it.
Hence the development of mantletless designs.
Something that doesn’t happen in WT.
No? Thats what germany made late war, Rücklauffreie Geschütze. They were basically barrels directly mounted.
They did it with 75 and 88mm guns.
I forgot the exaxt designation, but there are photos of it as well.
They can and do, and most times it’s for the best.
Example…
Our tanks never have to worry about fuel. You’re not going to throw a track because you were a little overenthusiastic in your driving. You can react instantly to any threat at the speed of thought, as if the tank was an extension of your body, while IRL you are dealing with the much slower process of giving verbal orders. You don’t have to worry about your transmission giving up the ghost. Etc.
Then there’s the big hitters I always bring out.
No one in this universe has any infantry.
Apparently Germany has the logistical capacity to ship a Maus to Guadalcanal, and think it’s suited for the terrain. Hell, they can ship it to Antarctica too, no problem.
Of course realism is selective. Even simulators have to choose what parameters to include or exclude, let alone a videogame whose primary objective is fun, and where realism is only useful insofar as it helps the fun.
If they weren’t selective about realism, you would have to create a new account every time you die in battle.
Sadly Arrowhead is doing PvE while our glorious Gaijin himself is the one who did Everyone Stock Heat for a PvP game
AP does something, but its mechanics are not well explained.
In your case it depends how you hit the side of the T-34.
APHE has advantage in generating a lot of spall even when it barely penned. AP doesn’t have this luxury, so you need to pen with a bigger margin so more energy is left for generating spall after penetration.
Hitting T-34 from side can generate different outcomes regardless of ammo you used. You can fail to pen or barely pen when you hit track or horizontal plate from the side, which makes all or almost all energy spent on penetrating the long side of the plate. If you pen it under an angle then again, more energy is spent on penetrating resulting in less spall. T-34 also has fuel tanks on sides. If you pen them, they tend to eat a lot of spall and spend a lot of energy of the shell by passing through it.
But a 75mm or 88mm isn’t a 152mm.
The recoil impulse is two to three times higher.
Depends on the power but all is relative.
Just play vehicles you enjoy then.
I have stopped researching new vehickes pretty much. I only really play the french tree between 6.0 and 10.0 nowadays. I have fun and don’t give a damn about any other nations and unlocking new tanks.
Very well. The key here is the fact that there are several bullet models in the game, some do more damage, others do less. Some should do a little more spalling, but the problem is that there are some that continue with a damage model made when the game started, and that act in an unrealistic way, making them have an exaggerated effectiveness, causing an imbalance between tanks with other types of bullets.
They could make everything realistic, nothing would happen, but if they are going to make an almost arcade game, then at least they should balance it well, they should not put exaggerated bullets because they made them at the beginning of the game, and they do not feel like correcting it.
In fact I’m still impressed how the devs made a vote on whether to “test” realistic APHE damage, when the normal thing, and being something that affects the game so much, what should be done is to change it directly, maybe modify some other Br and that’s it. It would be like if a tank had a bug that made it invincible and the devs asked if the players wanted to “test” the bug fix, and if people didn’t want it to be left as is.
They should a 155 or any howitzer should one shot anything especially the T-34
Also, shooting a panzer 4 center mass with solid AP and only turning the driver slightly yellow is extremely infuriating
AP and APDS both do that i hit a Centurion in the same spot 3 times it only yellowed the gunner same with the T-34 side on only orange. Centurion hit with APDS T-34 with AP
