Shot down... by an 'armored car'? What was happening here?

I had the most embarrassing moment when my bomber died to an armored car. Which I tried to bomb. This must have been that rare, that Gaijin never coded that fully into the messages, see:
grafik

Or isn’t that what was happening here?

Bombs that happily explode when bullets are in their general vicinity is somewhat new. Ahem, don’t bombs have iron hulls?

Rifle calibre shouldn’t pen it constantly.

I believe its a thing now in the game, I have shot down and been shot down in planes through the same mechanic and from ground vehicles as well. You can even detonate bombs on the ground with a long timer by shooting at them.
It is all a bit meh and very unrealistic just another mechanic to shorten the match timer and give out easier kills to players, another dumb down mechanic.

Especially the bit where the bomb will only damage the team of the person dropping it and not the team of the person shooting it… so not only do bombs unrealistically detonate from even the smallest AP round hitting them, it also grants the shooter and their team a forcefield that magically nullifies the entire blast.

For me when i was killed by own hitscan aaa defending a mini-base whilst attacking a Pe-2 which was trying to bomb this base. Own aaa got both of us 😂

No, happens all the time. There are at least 2 threads which dealt with the topic bombs inside or outside the bomb bay, likelihood of hits / energy transfers strong enough to detonate phlegmatic explosives and even wall thickness of bombs. Boils down that it could happen irl in theory but wt exaggerated the probability.

Best solution to avoid this: Use incendiary bombs if you can - I recently managed to destroy all 6 remaining C 250 flamm bombs of a Do 217 (he killed a base with 2) - 2 of them outside the bomber - 4 inside whilst the 217 was more or less undamaged even by the internal detonations as flamm bombs produce just minor damage.

As a general rule:

If you get killed by random ai midfield aaa or armored trucks you played in most cases way too effective for a lot of matches in a row - RNG has often a kind of hidden dynamic most people never notice.

Same as getting damaged by usually harmless random midfield aaa - happens usually very late game when u managed to turn around a number disadvantage into 1 vs 1 - boom oil leak and you have to rtb and lose the match by tickets - happened way to often in 30k Air RB battles to call it confirmation bias. Best experience ever: Direct hit in my right engine 4 or 5 years ago at 7,200 meters on Sicily map in a B 18B

Have a good one!

A good while ago I was shot down by a bot like that, he got a lucky shot and set me on fire. Was before the new maps with good anti-airs in air rb so it was incredibly rare

Although the inhabitants of Hamburg, Cologne and Dresden may contradict, British and US bombers are apparently unable to field incendiary bombs. Hence none on that B-25J I was flying at the time…

I find this highly unlikely… it’s me we’re talking about.
Statshark too says I am just an average player.

dude one time on a map which idr the name of i got absolutely LASERED out the air by midfield aa, there were mountains in the middle and it was a island, i was flying the p51-h and was in a uptier

I was aware of this😎 That’s why i wrote:

  1. I saw you few times in Spitfires, not bad
  2. Your 4 weeks rating says “Good olayer”
  3. Ratings are focusing on kills and average scores
  4. Your habit to fly bombers kills your rating
  5. Nobody cares about stats
  6. I was last year for months global at #300 - #500 regarding WR (73-74%)
  7. SS rated me as average player, idc

The map is Bourbon island - any you got killed by a M163 gatling gun SPAA protecting a convoy.

If you have a few thousand matches more you will learn how to use them to your advantage, i loved the map with the He 162 vs US and JP props.

  1. You need to memorize the routes of your / all ai convoys and learn how to get the 4-6 guys behind you (as you are usually the last guy alive) and drag them to a lower altitude (~2 km) in a perfect row behind you.
  2. You need to throttle back to give them the illusion that can catch you and keep a horizontal gap of max ~ 2km (otherwise they climb or start groundpounding) and fly then directly towards a friendly ai convoy / column - and these M163s kill at least one, often 2 of the guys behind you.
  3. Works perfect for the vehicle columns at grids E/F 4 - the others drive through valleys - but avoid in any case to get closer than 2.5 km to an enemy column, otherwise you get sniped too.
  4. Flew 162s last time a year or two ago, so they might have changed routes, but seeing your reporting of your “significant emotional event” these M163s are still a pain in the ass

I’ve literally had a 1000kg bomb land on my M10 but thanks to .50 cal I’m entirely unharmed while the FW that dropped it is annihilated
