If a nuke was shot down midair it would cause next to no damage.
ummmmm dude… what makes you think that a nuke that gets shot midair and detonated because of that hit would cause no damage?
Mate, a nuke wouldn’t cause a nuclear blast if it was shot down.
yes, yes they can they very easily could any pen into a nuke can easily cause the core to go supercritical (btw shot down means hit and detonated mid air, in game its not actually supposed to be possible to disarm a bomb by shooting it)
The core of a nuclear bomb doesn’t go supercritical just because the bomb was damage. If any of the important components of a nuclear bomb is damaged the reaction that is required for the material inside the bomb to go supercritical and the bomb to cause a nuclear blast is not going to succeed.
The possibility of a bomb being “disarmed” by shooting it depends on the type of explosive filler of the bomb and the ammunition that hits the bomb. Certain bombs will explode if hit by certain types of ammunition. For simplicity reasons the game treats all bombs the same way, causing them to explode if they are hit by bullets.
the conventional explosive charge can be hit can it not?
Yes, the explosive charge can be hit. However, this being an implosion-type nuclear bomb, all the charges have to go off at the same time and all of the force exerted by the charges exploding has to get focussed on the core for the reaction to work.
If the bomb was shot in a way that can set off the explosives there is bound to be a hole in the hull of the bomb, meaning the force can escape and the charges would most likely not explode simultaneously either.
first off, not one person ever mentioned it being an implosion type
second off the nuke at 6.3 (as implied in previous statements) is not an implosion type
you know that when a nuke goes off the entire bomb itself is vaporized almost instantly right? the entire idea of how a nuke works is to create a massive pressure and heat wave, if anything that hole would actually cause the blast focus on where the shot came from
The Mark 6 Nuclear bomb (the one dropped by the B-29) and the Mark 7 Nuclear bomb (the one dropped by the Canberra) both are implosion-type nuclear bombs, the picture you posted is a depiction of such a bomb.
The other nuclear bombs available in the game are more modern designs, which are bound to have a huge amount of safety mechanisms and an even more complex setup for the nuclear reaction.
And how exactly do you think does the bomb go off? Do you think there is just a switch inside the bomb that tells the core to do its thing?!?
a timer rather than a switch but yes actually how do you think a timed fuze works?
And what do you think happens when the fuze triggers? The core doesn’t just go supercritical on its own.
I’ve already tried to explain this. There are multiple components in a nuclear bomb that have to do their job in a specific order under very specific conditions.
If the timings are off, the order not right or the conditions not met, the nuke won’t explode the way it is supposed to and the reaction just ‘fizzles’ out as the core wasn’t ‘pushed’ enough to go supercritical.
I didn’t even know this was a thing lol i mean historically wasn’t the nukes on japan timed fused lol and if you actually shot a nuke irl i’m sure it would you know blow up therefore you would still be nuked haha make it make sense WT
Oh that makes sense i guess
Shooting a nuke with a conventional bullet doesn’t cause an explosion. Uranium isn’t an explosive. The way the little boy detonated was by hitting the core with a → Uranium bullet ←
I dont think they were timed fused. They had a barometer that helped measure altitude, when a certain height was reached radar altimeters turned on that measured the distance to ground and detonated the bombs at a certain altitude.
They may have had timers as a back up though.
Alot of people here seem to be stuck on IRL when this is a game.
If you manage to earn a nuke and get it to the battle field to drop it then no it shouldnt be able to be shot down.
But Gaijin loves giving the players a treat then ripping it out of their hands last second. Its also really stupid as most nukes are earned right at the end of a battle anyways and its a rush to try to drop them before the match ends.
