Shenyang J-11, J-16, J-15, History, Performance & Discussion

To be honest, even the J-11B only lost 700-800 kg in weight. Considering that next year the J-15 is likely to appear, I would be satisfied that even the J-15 can only be reduced by a few hundred kilograms.

All I am saying are that more images are needed than what was provided to show extensive use of composites. Surely some weight savings were made but it is lost in other areas. If you want Gaijin to accept something you will likely need actual documentation of some sort.

I mean I wouldn’t consider 7-800 kg a huge difference in gameplay, so I really don’t mind, plus I don’t think they ever publicly compared J15 to SU33 nor gave any J15 weight, I’ll dig on that though.

Also, like most people say, I think that China has already demonstrated the weight superiority of composite materials on the J-11B, and there is no reason why they should not use this experience on the J-15. Of course, it’s hard for me to find the relevant information, after all, this is the most advanced (maybe the second most advanced?) in China at the moment. Because the carrier-based aircraft of the J-35, haha, and the only heavy carrier-based aircraft currently in service in the world, it must be highly secretive.

Is there information about the weight of the J-15 at the Zhuhai Airshow this year?

Nope, I think they only did a show case area and no board. Some estimated as little as 27t weight (gross) compared to 29 of Su33 but no real data. Also worth noting some has once been quoted saying it is a 30t class heavy fighter, although I think due to limitation of takeoff method it can’t carry full load.

My search on the Internet showed that the J-15 had a maximum take-off weight of 32.5 tons, an empty weight of 17.5 tons, and an internal fuel volume of about 5.3 tons. Is there any weight reduction in this data compared to the Su-33?

I saw specifically for 016 it is 31.5 with full internal fuel, with shorter runway it is 29 I think.

Weight of Su-33

  • Empty weight: 19600 kg
  • Curb weight: 20,440 kg (2 × R-27E + 2 × R-73)
  • Normal take-off weight with partial refueling: 26,000 kg
  • Normal take-off weight with full refueling: 29940 kg
  • Maximum take-off weight: 33,000 kg
  • Fuel weight 9400 kg; main refueling option 5350 kg
  • Normal landing weight: 22400 kg
  • Maximum landing weight: 26,000 kg
  • Fuel tank capacity: 12100 liters

It seems that the J-15 may be a little lighter than the Su-33.

In the USSR/In Russia, by the weight of an empty aircraft, they usually mean the weight of an Empty equipped aircraft, that is, + (the weight of the pilot / full ammunition for the built-in cannon / the weight of the Pylons, APU without weapons / non-spilled fuel residue / weight of technical liquids and oils)…
The dry weight of an empty aircraft can only be found in the operating instructions or in the Sukhoi Design Bureau…

standar difference is a hard issue, already happened once in engine empty weight.

China did tests with J15 to land on the aircraft carrier, so they removed most things with 3 tonnes of fuel for safety reasons and then increased each time to obtain this data, so from what seem to be suggested, it is around 1 tonne lighter than su33. Fuel carried is also 9 tonnes and the maximum takeoff measured with long runway is 31 tonnes, short runway is 28.

Weight decrease is a good thing and all, but I’m more interested in the radar/avionics and how Gaijin will model them.

Excuse me but the missile on wing tip pylon aren’t PL-10?
Also if u could provide a source link would be great, as i have seen more than 2 fake PL-17 photos.

Nice, but that may be fake, if it is it’s really hard to tell so I won’t make any calls right now.

But the shadow right here is very weird, if it eclipses part of the missile there’s no reason it shouldn’t eclipse it fully. Especially looking at the shadows in between the engines those are consistent so it’s not angle.

If it is real that’s very cool.

PL-10 yea, missclick

Tried image search, but can’t find any “original” image.
