Come on mate, aim120s are not in the same tier as r771 or mica. What the hell do you think happened In the last patch that made aim120s from the worst to some of the best top tier missiles? And pl12 from being third best to being eorse than even aim120s?
Amd that is exactly where the problems are with the J-15T.
You have to get within 20km yo get your PL12A to work, but you absolutely don’t want to get within that distance due to your low CM count and fliggt performance.
That is something i can 1000% understand im not claiming the j15t is in a good place and viable. Im just talking missiles
Come on, after the recent patch, I think the 120D is the best missile, especially when carried by the F15GE. It has the propulsion of the 120C, a superior seeker, and its hit rate is unmatched by older seekers. The old seekers often lose lock at long range because the target has time to react and maneuver, but the120D allows me to engage at much greater distances with its new seeker, securing the kill. You know what I mean?
Now, back to the PL12. Above BR 14.0, isn’t the most important thing greater propulsion and range? The PL12’s range limitation is magnified here, making it the weakest in this tier. In solo you simply won’t have the advantage unless you get within its effective 20 km envelope—but good luck getting anyone to close that distance with you.
theoretically, the seekers are still much same, gps helps when you shoot at someone at low altitude with great ground clutter, the missile can rely on GPS guidance to guide. in higher altitude, the longer locking range and big radar fov makes gps and iog no difference.
New seekers have a much better hit rate against targets on the 3-9 line. As long as your radar maintains illumination, the enemy needs to perform more precise defensive maneuvers and deploy more countermeasures to break the missile lock. Missiles equipped with the new seeker have a significantly stronger suppressive effect on the enemy.
in lower altitude, the lower, the stronger ground clutter, gps helps better
high altitude bvr condition, iog can work almost same
the problem for PL-12s is, J-15t’s flight performance is not so good, while PL-12’s energy is lower than 120C/D and R-77-1, in lower altitude, the drag makes them not so much difference, but in high altitude and speed with low drag, the energy difference is significant, the 20km fight range expend to 30-40km in SU-30SM2 when doing high speed/altitude BVR
I heard that the ECM in the new event is simulated using ground clutter in the game? It seems that GNSS can improve the hit rate against jets equipped with ECM pods in future.
thats absurd, there is no new seeker either
welcome to the game since they made esa DL refresh instants, this has been a thing for a while, and that works only if youre looking down on aircraft and if theyre not chaffing, the missile will go for chaff if it sees it
Yeah, but that has to be ignoring all other aspects. In reality, PL-12 carriers have to commit so much more than their AMRAAM carrying counterparts because the fixed radars and considering their acceleration that ain’t ideal.
Also there is a point with some points others have said, PL-12 does have worse kinetics and with the new missiles I am starting to see the difference even just slightly.
IDK if everyone has this impression but I did get sidelined a few more times whilst notching by AMRAAM-Ds which previously happened very little.
ef2k aesa isnt the only amraam carrier
Most fight start within 30 to 35 km at 14.0 and beyond depending on who you fight
Starting by putting early pressure then push the enemy until you get close enough to kill the enemy
the pl12 ability to put pressure on another jet at those ranges is extremely poor
Yeah launch angles are better on the pl12a ideal for dogfight scenario but actual dogfight rarely happpen anymore and forcing people into a dogfight isnt ideal either because of third parties
Also good luck forcing people to get close to you when your in a jet with low cm count
the 120d issue is that its not ideal in dogfights and close range because its not as maneuverable but every thing else is good
Good range
Good energy retention
Good drag values
Can be launched at any angle
And it benefits from having a good launch platform
Pl12a overall isnt bad but it cant compete at the br because it lack kinematics
Obviously the April fools event has teased ECM and bvvd has stated intentions to add next-generation IR missiles soon, optimistically can I assume that the J-15T will thus get a series of buffs that makes it competitive by the end of this year?
That is, with ECM + PL-10, will J-15T finally become a useable aircraft?
if j-15 gets ecm, other planes will also get ecm and we will be back to square 1
true
Well fixed radar so J-10C and J-15T, their counterparts are EFs and GE and only the poor hornets have a tough time in this respect. Also just saying this ain’t denying AMRAAM’s problems, but just saying that at this point I def had more fun with my 5-6 games spamming 120D than playing with PL-12A.
What also I am annoyed at is the fact that it actually doesn’t reach designated range so clearly sth. is off. Although knowing Gaijin even if we pull sources out of thin air it will be just a 180s guide time update.
Probably largely because the platforms that those amraams are on are massively better than the platforms that have the PL12A.
I played on hornet and GE, so not the EF but still it felt more consistent.I played the EF back in dev and that was the same feeling, it was just far better at keeping your opponents from
a comfortable position whilst Pl12 is better close spamming amraam is an option, Pl12, not so much.
damn i wish i was playing your war thunder were range is so important
