IIRC they did seem to have considered some sort of flare or chaff pod, as some non official sources mentioned but in the end they only ended up in larger aircrafts.

su-35 for china will fix that hopefully, and maybe they will adopt the dual PL-12 pylon for the J-15/16 if they do
