new J-20A/S seem has a new engine with 16 pieces nozzle(the count in the image missed one due to blurry image). could be developed based on WS-10D, with about 155KN thrust

According to well-informed Chinese military commentators, the production variant of the J-15T will not adopt the WS-10 engine, but instead use an upgraded naval version of the AL-31F with increased thrust. While I’m unfamiliar with follow-up models of the AL-31F-3, UEC showcased a naval engine designated AL-31F series 5/5-01 with 14,000 kgf thrust at the 2024 airshow, which appears to be the variant selected for the J-15T.

Spoiler

That seems like a step back compared to using domestic engines

On one hand, we don’t know the exact thrust output of the WS-10 engines installed on prototype 1518. On the other hand, this approach would standardize engine maintenance across the carrier fleet and reduce retraining costs for pilots adapting to throttle control during carrier landings.

Man i might be wrong. But Series 5 engine are for 1 engine aircraft like J-10. For two engine like Flankers 177c its the new engine they have Show on Zhuhai and in India.

Rostec - Media - News - UEC has First Presented the Latest Fifth Generation Aircraft Engine

"The AL-31F/FN/FP family engines for multi-role fighters have received upgraded appearance — Series 5. The new AL-31FN engine version is designed especially for single engine aircraft and features increased reliability. The engine will expand the aircraft range and altitude potential. This is ensured by a takeoff thrust increased up to 14 000 kgf and fuel consumption reduced by 6%. "

Actually, the variant used for single-engine aircraft is the AL-31FN, as mentioned here.

It clearly said AL-31fn series5. Under the AL-31pf it look like it said somthing about 31F series 5/5-01. Maybe that its for flankers without TVC.

You might have missed some information—the English translation on the right side is blocked, but it means “specifically designed for maritime operating environments.” Additionally, the upper part states “carrier-based aircraft.”

yea first time I’ve see these pic. The talk its always on 177c. I remember that the series 5 was because it have a gearbox in a dif position. But this 5/5-01 its new to me.

These images are from the promotional video at UEC’s booth during the 2024 Zhuhai Airshow. By the way, the AL-31F SER.5/5-01 wasn’t listed in their booth materials, but they did feature an AL-31F-3 ser.45 —perhaps that’s its official designation? Unfortunately, I wasn’t there in person lol.

i wish i could go to some of these. Usually the people that go just post 1 or 2 pic.

Edit; it look like they are made by different company. Salyut made the Series 5 and NPO Saturn the 177c engine.

Is the 14000 kgf absolute max thrust at static? Or does it get an emergency power mode like say the 117c that raises the thrust from 14000 kgf to 14500

177c its 14500 kgf and 15000 with emergency.

117S and 177S are different engines

Its possibly that they use componens from AL-31FM2 (seen on some J-20), to upgrade or create custom AL-31F-3 and AL-31FN variants.

Whoops yeah I mistyped, meant 117c

Ye you’re right meant to talk about 117c engine

177c is su57 engine b4 izd 30?

Su-57 uses 117. 177S is new engine not yet installed on anything designed to fit any flanker except Su-35 that uses 117S

Nop. Its a like a new AL-31. With modern manufactory technique and stuff from AL-51/izd 30. Its has same dimension as AL-31. AL-41/117 has bigger diameter. 905mm vs 932mm.

Main focus was engine life. No power.

Spoiler

I hope that AL-51 prioritize power over engine line. But everything point to engine life.
