In my opinion, the biggest problem with the J-15T in its current state is that it carries far too few countermeasures. This prevents it from handling most in-game situations. As a result, even if the J-15T were downtiered to 14.3 or even 14.0, the gameplay experience would still be poor. Because of the lack of countermeasures, it is essentially a “crippled” aircraft.
In reality, the PLAAF does equip its fighters with various electronic countermeasure (ECM) systems. However, since the live game currently has no ECM mechanics, and Chinese ECM equipment is highly classified, there is little reason to expect the J-15T to compensate for its lack of physical countermeasures through electronic means.
I believe the only solution is to add the 29DCT countermeasure pod that has been mentioned in the Chinese subforum as a supplement for the lack of countermeasures. As a trade-off, the two PL-8Bs on the wingtip pylons could be sacrificed, granting 180 countermeasures in return. This approach is completely reasonable and has already been implemented on other aircraft in the game.
The patent documents for this 29DCT pod are very detailed, which proves that the pod definitively exists and can definitively be carried by the J-15T. The J-15T is a fighter that only entered public view in 2025. Obviously, you won’t find photos of the J-15T carrying the 29DCT pod. However, the patent documents for this pod, presented in great detail on the Chinese subforum, should serve as a valid basis for its implementation in the game. Hopefully, the J-15T can be made more perfect.
Unfortunately, no such photo has been found so far. There are two main reasons for this:
According to publicly available information, the Chinese military placed an order for and received only 59 units of the 29DCT pod — not a large quantity.
Public sources also indicate that this pod was produced in 2021, which is relatively recent. Perhaps it simply hasn’t been caught on camera yet.
Since this pod has been assigned a Chinese military standard designation (GJB), it qualifies as standard PLAAF active-service equipment. In theory, it should be observable.
Given that the 29DCT pod was designed and manufactured by AVIC Hongdu — a company primarily known for its trainer aircraft (including the K-8 and L-15, among others) — it is plausible that this pod was originally intended for trainers with weaker ECM capabilities.
I have also posted the thread from the Chinese subforum regarding this pod. Feel free to read it if you are interested. Thank you.29DCT
I think a better solution would be ECM pods that would give the J-15T normal or BOL chaff as a temporary solution. I think adding more flares is kinda unfair, but adding BOL chaff (which is the smallest and least effective type of chaff) wouldn’t be too overpowered.
And the ECM pods could again replace the PL8B pylons on the wingtips.
China’s ECM equipment is highly classified. Furthermore, the J-15T already carries its own built-in ECM systems – which is precisely why the Chinese military has fully mastered the naval Flanker series and even altered the arrangement of its countermeasure dispensers without deliberately increasing the flare count. We cannot expect Gaijin to accurately simulate the performance of these systems with little to no publicly available data. Moreover, the ECM mechanic has not yet been formally implemented in the live game. There are simply too many unknowns.
As for chaff-only pods, to my knowledge, China is not particularly keen on developing BOL-style rails. The 29DCT pod is the closest Chinese-made military product I have seen to a BOL-style dispenser. (Of course, the documentation for the 29DCT indicates it can internally carry both flares and chaff. If this pod were added to the game and equipped only with chaff, I think that would also be acceptable.)
This is a J-15D electronic warfare aircraft. Its wingtip pylons carry electronic warfare pods — though these pods remain a mystery, with publicly available information being extremely scarce. To my knowledge, they are purely electronic warfare pods and do not have the ability to dispense physical countermeasures (flares/chaff).
Interestingly, the J-15D is a two-seat canard Flanker. China has never operated any canard-equipped Su-30 variant. Therefore, this aircraft may have been developed entirely through China’s own indigenous research and development capabilities, built upon the experience gained from developing and manufacturing the J-15 and J-16. This perhaps demonstrates that China has fully mastered the Flanker series design.
I think that Gaijin will make all ECM equal, or for planes that are struggling, make the ECM better than the rest. Either way, it will be very simplified.
My idea would be temporary, because I doubt that Gaijin would add this pod (because Gaijin doesn’t really like China Air), and this temporary solution could benefit other jets (J-10C, F/A-18E/F).
China may not be particularly keen on developing rails or pods capable of dispensing physical countermeasures (BOL). All known photos to date show ECM pods, not physical countermeasure dispensers. The 29DCT is already the most suitable, clearly existing, active-service Chinese piece of equipment I have seen that fits the game’s mechanics.
I retract all previous statements about the ‘ECM’ pods. They are likely part of the EW system found only on the J-16D and J-15D. Sorry for the confusion.
Oh my god, this BOL pylon looks so simple and effective in structure, and it even has three-view drawings. Are there any other details about it? Such as its designation and the number of countermeasures it carries?
