su30mk2 dosent have r-77-1

Oh yeah true although imo it doesn’t make that much of a difference

The R-77-1 also has that little “bump” in front of the grid fins, but man it’s surreal seeing an R-73 on a PLAAF jet in 2025

RVV-SD is R-77-1’s export name

I know, I just use R-77-1 out of habit

I mean

The PLAAF appears to have no plans to integrate additional IR missiles for the Su-30MKK, particularly during the late stage of their service life.

Did china buy rvv-md for their su35 or still using r73e?

Can’t be sure. It’s very difficult to visually distinguish between the R-73 and the RVV-MD.

my bet is no, Su-35 was purchased for evaluation (most likely for engines evaluation specifically), purchasing new weapons alongside it seems wasteful in my opinion.

I mean China does have a massive stockpile of R73s that are meant to be used with J-11/As which never saw any conflict before retirement, pretty sure those will be enough to see Su35s to the end.

Probably. RVV-MD is good, but on the modern battlefield R-73 would still probably be enough. And this is if Su-35 will see combat. I doubt that it was purchased for active duty.

Interception + evaluation mainly, + unlikely conflict in the next decade.

yeah, interceptions don’t really require high performance HOBS Fox-2s. R-73E would be more than enough in such cases.

Did the WS-10 get a buff? Didn’t remember it being 12.5t thrust, thought it was 12 just like AL31.

It’s always been like that, although it’s thrust curve drops immediately unlike al-31f/al-31f1, so it’s a bit misleading

What’s with the thrust curve? I also did some tests on J-11B just now, and using the same method I did before it is almost 15 seconds faster than previous in getting to 8k alt and then getting to M1.5.

I mean the thrust on the statcard is slightly misleading because unlike the russian engines, the ws-10 experiences a much sharper drop in thrust from static. So even though it says it has more thrust than al-31f1 at static, in practice it doesn’t
(thrust curve at 100m)
