Description:
The SET XV was an all metal, single-bay biplane Romanian fighter designed by Societatea Pentru Exploatări Tehnice in the mid 1930s. The wings were of differing lengths, and braced together via N struts. The undercarrage had a fixed landing gear, which included a fixed tail wheel, and the two front wheels are spatted. The pilot had a fully enclosed cockpit with the majority of the aircrafts metal construction being covered by fabric, while the engine was covered by a NACA cowl. Only a single prototype was built.
At the time the Romanian Air Force had a contract for a new fighter, in which various designs would be tested, including some IAR designs such as the IAR-15, and 16, and the SET XV was made in response to this contract. However, unfortunately for SET, the Romanian Air Force had already chosen the Polish PZL P.11 before the SET XV was even properly tested, which of course upset SET. Afterward the SET XV prototype would be used as an aerobatic trainer all the way up until 1940 until it was forced to retire due to an accident.
Most of SET’s aircraft they built was licensed produced, with very few being designed by them, and even fewer being armed, so the SET XV would be a pretty cool and obscure aircraft to add to the game, as it is SET’s most advanced domestic design, and could serve as a decent 1.0-1.3 fighter, it could even be a good pair for something like the IAR-15.
