Server Update 23.01.2025

How so? Bots (ships controlled by AI, with name visible in player list, [not bots like AI aircraft, that do not have any name]) in naval battles give same number of SL like regular players.
How is that a nerf?
Battle will start earlier, you will be able to join more of them = you will earn even more than previously.

Don’t bots reward less than players?

Always seems like it to me, especially in coastal

No. 16 bots vs 16 bots = no players = battle will not start. Why we should create battles like that?

I checked that with devs before I answered you, just to be sure.

So 30 bots maximum, not 32

Nice, can actually play relaxed naval now with my premiums against bots and farm SL.

Sorry, will have to double check next time I’m in a match. But fairly certain they reward less.

But might be that the bots are just target practice and die in 1 shot most of the time, so you get none of the reward from damaging them first.

the only thing it fixes is cutting the queue times by bloating the ‘‘player’’ count with more bots
the amount of people playing remains the same

end result: you find the matches faster, but the odds of it being effectively a PvE match are increased
so it wouldnt surprise me if the long term effects of this ‘fix’ will result in even fewer people playing naval, because fighting bots (in their current state) isnt particularly interesting or engaging

on the other hand, they did recently update the selection of ships the bots can spawn in, which is a very welcome change (but they fail to mention that anywhere)

Ok, just played a Naval Arcade match, with heavy cruisers @ 6.3 BR. The Battleship spam is still overwhelmingly obnoxious, but I do actually like having less real players per match. It got up to 7 real players per side, definitely an improvement imo for higher BR’s.

However, it still does not address or improve the situation for ships in the 6.0-6.3 BR range. We really need BR decompression. I still have Heavy and light cruisers in my 7.0 lineups, but when I feel like playing a cruiser lineup, I want to fight other cruisers. Not Battleship spam.

Thank you Stona_WT and team. I really like naval, and am going to continue playing it. Please continue to give the mode some love and attention 🍻

EDIT: Another option/solution would be to give us a check box/slider option like there is with Ground Realistic Battles to have the possibility of Night Battles and Air Realistic to have smaller teams. For Naval give us the option to opt into a BR spread of 0.7 BR +/- instead of 1.0 +/-

I would prefer if this was a hard setting, and not just a possibility. And perhaps make it available only to those with premium time. But something needs to change, I effectively cannot use my 6.0-6.3 boats right now.

And a major economy rework

Oh sure, if you think so fren. I should rephrase that lol. For ME the only thing that Naval needs is BR decompression 😄 I play premium boats 99% of the time, so I do not have, nor notice, economy issues myself. If you have ideas/concerns, now is probably a great time to post your issues/ideas. 🍻

(EDIT: edited my other post to say ME/I.)

If that’s the case, then someone here is lying, because that’s not the case.
As you can see in this example: destroying the rank 1 ship Litchfield bot gives 1058 base SL reward, compared to the player-controlled Vega also rank 1 ship - 7061 base SL. Same goes for coastal boats. Even destroying a rank 1 PT-6 pt boat controlled by a player gives 2693 SL compared to destroying a Rank 3 PT-59 bot which gives 1862 SL.

With naval being more populated by bots than humans, maybe its time to rework their pathfinding?
On many maps they are completely unable to navigate, often times they cant even make it out of the spawn, simply going back and forth, back and forth ad nauseam.

@Stona_WT

If Bots reward the same as players. Then why do they reward on average about half to a third of what a player kill does?

Either I have absolutely no idea how naval economy works or you need to raise a major issue with the devs.

Sample size of one match, so not great data and only managed to kill a single player light cruiser (a USS Fargo) which rewarded just shy of 10k SL. The light cruiser bot kills averaged more like 3-4k. Several of those bot kills I did a majority share of the damage, same with the player kill

(If the figures in white next to the SL/RP rewards are the damage dealt/shell hit, then I wonder if the issue is that shells vs bots are simply not registering, because I hit some of those targets with WAY more shells than listed there, that HMS Dido for example was less than 2km away and I was slamming 12 shell broadsides into it.)

Going forward I will log every match like this and generate a much larger sample size.

I don’t have many naval matches thanks to the ground event, just this

Somers bot was a single shot detonation

The Bravy was interrupted by focusing on a Cleveland hence the two minute gap

I’d need to run rounds to test where I specifically gun down bots that no players had shot beforehand but how can the devs claim named bots give the same amount of SL when nothing points to that?

Does this bot correction also apply to the Battle Pass challenge “Bird Hunt,” in which the stated victory conditions include the destruction of both bots and players yet in reality only destroyed player aircraft are counted?

They 100% give different rewards lmaooo.

Why would AI vehicles give the same as player vehicles, that doesn’t make much sense at all.

if they’re supposed to give the same amount, how many millions of SL have been lost because of this issue? Billions? Are we going to see a retroactive issuance of this SL? Why would naval AI reward the same as a naval player, but air or ground bots wouldn’t?

Questions for Plato.

Yeah, if they have meant to be rewarding the same amount all this time. I will never have to farm SLs again if they retroactively give everyone the SLs they should have had :D

I don’t think there’s ever been a game in which killing the AI (which are always coded so horribly) would give a player MORE rewards than killing an actual person.

IF this is a bug, I’d like to see Air AI give the same rewards in ARB, even though it doesn’t make the slightest sense

WT Players sure do love to complain. There’s a lot of “but this is the bigger issue” going on right now.

Thanks, genuinely, for the change. Queues were particularly slow in high-tier coastal. My friends and I enjoy naval, but the queue time frequently kept some of them away. I don’t come into the forums often, much less to say something about a server patch.

And sure, I agree, BRs need looking at and the bots currently do give less rewards than players, which appears to be a bug then. Hopefully we can knock that one out too now off the back of the queue time fix.

Naval’s got a long way to “ship shape”, but it’d be nice to take a moment to be thankful for what this change means while not forgetting about what still needs doing to make Naval better - though I don’t think we’re at risk of that by the responses here.
