No it’s like hairs standing up on an animal to make itself look bigger.

I’ve been doing quite a bit of research on these tanks lately out of interest.

One thing that has been coming up is that the additional armor is not 25 mm. In fact, it seems to be 30 mm at the front and 15 mm at the sides.

Photos and documents

This document provides information on the additional armor and the total armor thickness that it provides.

Specifically the 2nd paragraph of the 1st point, states the following (translated image):
image

“At the top” here means the upper casemate side, while “at the bottom” means the lower main body side, which are 45 mm and 25 mm respectively without any additional armor. As far as I can tell, the extra 9 mm on the lower main body side comes from automotive components like the suspension, tracks, road wheels, and so on, specially since the additional armor only covers a bit of the lower side.

So immediately, this document says the upper side is a total of 60 mm thick with the additional armor, while with the 25 mm extra it would be 70 mm. In other words, the only way it could match this 60 mm value is with 15 mm of additional armor, not 25.

In relation to the front, while your suggestion states that it is 75 mm with an additional 25 mm, in game the M43 hulls have 70 mm, which is backed up by documents like “Kennblätter fremden Geräts D 50/12: Kraftfahrzeuge” (if you look at the changelogs for “Storm Warning” Gaijin has a list of the documents they used for this change from 75 to 70 mm). This document has a page on the 75/46 M43, which uses the same hull and states the armor values of the front, upper side, lower side, roof and floor, all of which currently match WarThunder (if you round the floor and roof to 15 mm).

The next page, however, specifically talks about the values with the additional “bulkhead armor”, repeating the values I’ve already shown of 100, 60 and 34 mm.

The only way this works out is if the additional frontal armor is 30 mm.

As far as I know this armor package wasn’t changed from one M43 to another, so I don’t believe the values should be different between this tank and the others.

Oh, by the way, the document “RH 10/366” (you can find it in german archives) shows the images of this tank. In fact the top image is what you used at the start of the suggestion.

However the lower image is just far higher quality than the others versions. The other ones are very blurry and hard to see any detail on the bottom half, this one isn’t.

Thanks anyway for this pic, I’ll use it for the suggestion.
Btw the best thing is that we second pic is more enlighted!

Yes, that’s why I’m posting it here.
