Scouting Through Scout UAVs

Oh yeah because marking every flanker at the beginning of a match and have them immediately killed, then ate game marking people trying to push back from second spawn light tanks that are in spawn getting them killed immediately is totally a huge nerf to spotting…

Sure spotting was bad but at least you needed some sort of line of sight, this drone nonsense is just ridiculous.

Before this addition you could still use the drone to spot by marking the enemy with the drone, jumping back to tank and spotting the marker (no line of sight required), then jump back into the drone and repeat the process. This without any extra cooldown and full spawn point reductions so you could spot the entire enemy team within the first minute of the match and spawn CAS directly after, this change is in practise a nerf to that ability. (i’ve personally seen this old method done perhaps every 2-3 matches at top tier)

Havent seen that all all tbh, good players usually kill enemys and dont spot them. And the scouting from tank is super unreliable
And if the snail says u havent seen him u habe a big cd.

I mean, maybe u habe seen that alot, but i would like to see some evidence befire i beöieve that, as i havemt seen that very often and would even struggle to believe that a good player that wants to spawn cas is depending on smt like that.

But like i say, maybe i am wrong, havent played in the last weeks very much, especially not top tier not in the last days.

But thing is that method was only reliable on enemies that were not moving, otherwise you would miss the scout due to the time needed to switch back to the tank and scout while the enemy kept moving, setting your scouting ability on a long cooldown. So unless they all just stayed in their spawn, no it was not possible to scout the entire enemy team in the first minute at which everyone is moving. With the new changes now you can scout every enemy anywhere on the map directly through the drone albeit with a longer cooldown and less sp reduction for cas. You can now basically keep one or two enemies constantly scouted on the other side of the map, but because 18 seconds cooldown you can’t scout (at least constantly) more ppl. But with at least 4-6 light tanks each team each match that shouldnt be a problem to keep the most dangerous positions scouted.

Havent tried it in game yet (is it actually live already) but im certainly not excited at all for that change to make it into the game. Perma scouted flanks at 8.0 wow thats gonna be cool for gameplay

Semi true, if you have the key binds set up well enough the enemies aren’t moving fast enough to go past a marker you put 1m in front of them before they are scouted. Sure it’s harder and there is a chance to miss, I’ll concede to that point.

true actually im watching the nukenus video of the begleit this moment where he does it early game with good efficiency by using this set point in the path of moving of enemy and scout method. Probably helps if youre getting used to the method and the 500th keybind you have to set but then it seems quite reliable. Though maybe not half the team more like 4 ppl, but his side of the map is gone after that. So maybe the change will actually tone this down because of longer cooldown i hope, coupled with the decrease in lowering of sp. Now if only the scout drones would have somewhat more reliable counters and this could actually be not too bad (maybe with fiddling with cooldowns more after testing period in the future as necessary)

Just because u see a video of someone dosnt mean that the average player in the average player is doing anything of that

just saying.

Most players dont even know the game core mechanics like what the crew does or that u can expert them

Sure, but it being possible with quite high chances of not missing the scout sets people using this even further apart from the average player (or someone grinding a tech tree for example, doesnt have cas or cap yet) and cant do anything if esports approved player xy has enough sp to hop in a completely opressive cas plane 1.5 minutes after match start. Its not whether only good players can use this, that it is possible is bad enough? Theres enough very good players in this game compared to how many average or just bad players there are to just snowball 70% of matches (also) because of broken mechanics like this. Not that they needed it per se, but to hop into a su30 or any cas plane with insane loadouts 2 minutes faster makes or breaks matches.

Actually i just thought it s a quite funny coincidence that just in that moment im watching a vid of someone doing it with great success (which is not seen regularly even with content of other very good players)

I’m thinking the same. This gives Gaijin an actual way to balance it as well so if it turns out that it is to op they can increase the cooldown timer even more or change it in other ways to balance it out. But there are also issues with their survivability being to high currently.

That would also explain the decrease in cooldown for scouting through the vehicle while the drone is up. Because the old method would still be usable with the low cooldowns as it was. So, actually, it could be not too bad after all :-)

In the future i just hope they will somehow turn/change it to something a bit more realistic but still resembling the ability of a scout vehicle thats reporting enemy locations. Something like: Scout Enemy vehicle/Type at roughly the location you used the scouting, but not the giant marker following you around for 30 seconds which also makes simple rescouting when somewhat static easy af, even if the enemy moved way out of sight (but knowing when the timer runs out and just scout through commander sight at where the last scout appeared is easy af).

Assists/rewards for it are fine imo, but the whole sp cost reduction for cas is just a completely unnecessary icing on the cake that just worsens the whole situation needlessly. Light tanks have enough perks/versatility already coupled with mobility advantages due to no or little armor (which can also have advantages in itself: no spall, non fuses and overmatches of aphe and other shells). Especially compared to Heavy tanks which get: exactly nothing. No scouting (why ever a heavy tank shouldnt be able to report enemy positions idk), no arty, just armor and usually much worse mobility and gun handling. I mean its working in Sim (no scouting for light tanks), why its set so far apart in versatility and perks you can use in RB is beyond me.

Hello Gajin. I’d advise you to remove this feature as quickly as possible. Please listen to me for once. Its for no good. I’ve seen light vehicles just sitting around at the spawn and hop into helis/jets with absolutely no efford. Just spamming drone scoutings + artillery. I mean there are light drones with thermal view. Nothing escapes them. They spot just everything on these small maps especially.

Whose Idea was it btw?

PS: Sometimes these drones are tanking two SAM hits?

You don’t fully understand the change then. The changes make it harder for light tanks to do that with UAV’s, not easier.

I highly suggest you read the announcement again, and read through all the previous comments before going further.

There is no low enough cooldown to balance this ever out. Its a sitting-in-spawn-do-nothing, but getting everything mechanic.

The old method was tricky, cause its not that easy to get the scouting with just the map marker from the drone. Especially on bigger maps. Now its foolproof, the higher countdown won’t balance this out.

It will almost certainly change/be modified. Take a breather man. It is brand new, everyone needs to test it out and come back with feedback. Not just freak out before we even fully understand what is going on, or how it will affect matches.

Speaking in absolutes is pointless. Again, go read the entire thread before you keep blowing things out of proportion.

If after fully understanding the changes, and testing them out for yourself, if you still have constructive criticism (or still absolutely hate the changes), great. Come back and post your feedback. But simply posting hyperbolic statements wont change anything.

You’re right. GRB makes it too easy to scout or to mark targets (like just shooting in its direction to get a onmap marker). Camoflaging and flanking get mostly inefficient, since you get marked too easily and everyone see’s you.

Now you don’t even need to move out of the spawn. Drone up, thermal view…see everyone, mark?? Thats too easy, especially since you’re sitting safe inside the spawn. Reminds me on Ka-50 helis lobbing Vikhrs from their heliport, as these still had npc AA guns. Or KH-38 jets lobbing GPS guided cruise missiles from their own main air base. Game devs should really avoid mechanics like this.
