I noticed that the scimitar currently in game has Gen 1 thermal vision when in reality it should have gen 2

and yes, im talking about the production variant, not a upgrade package.

The scimitar Mk.2 uses the Thales Catherine-FC thermals, which features gen 2 thermals
note: 754x576 is the resolution, it is considered Gen 2

You can also see this in game, the Scimitar Mk.2 model in-game features the bulky rectangular armored sight box on the right-hand side of the turret roof.
This housing layout was engineered by Thales explicitly to fit the physical size and dimensions (250 × 180 × 120 mm) of the Catherine-FC camera chassis.

Also, the T-90A and VT-4 in-game already uses the Thales Catherine-FC thermal vision, and gaijin modeled them with gen 2 thermals.

Summary
Based on primary defense documentation, Thales manufacturer specification sheets, and UK Ministry of Defence records, the Scimitar Mk.2 utilized the Thales Catherine FC thermal imager inside its STAG FC gunner’s sight.

Currently, It has the Generation 1 thermals in-game.
As already shown, the Catherine-FC sensor core on other tanks like the VT-4 was correctly implemented.

I kindly request that the Scimitar Mk.2’s gunner thermal be corrected to gen 2 (800x600 resolution layout).

Scimitar Mk.2 isn’t one of the Scimitars with BGTI. The ones with BGTI are Mk.1 Scimitars that have two large sightheads like Warrior

Scimitar Mk.2’s sights are a modernised version of E-SPIRE which was a Gen 1 thermal imager that entered service ~1998.
E-SPIRE underwent modernisation in 2009 to add Catherine MP on some Scimitars in operational service in Afghanistan, before Scimitar Mk.2 entered service in 2011.

Obsolete displays and FCS units of the E-SPIRE gunner station were replaced with elements of the BGTI gunner station, but other parts like the daysight and sighthead were retained from E-SPIRE.
In service, this version of the gunnery system is called M-SPIRE.

Catherine MP is a high definition 1280x1024 staring array thermal imager, which would be categorised as Gen 3 in War Thunder.

It’s a shame that such cool vehicle is missing by a lot, I mean, it’s no news but what could make this a truly unique event vehicle is missing like the 30 mm APDS-FS, the fire control system module affecting the weapon handling, given the reasoning behind the Fox and Scimitar turret systems, and it comes to the lack of scout UAV which most vehicles at its rank has access to.

Hopefully by the moment this vehicle became available Gaijin fixes those issues. Would be unfair but to be honest event vehicles should have at least decent treatment in a moment where most event vehicles aren’t interesting as they used to be.

No, older versions of the scimitar uses the E-SPIRE sights, the Scimitar Mk.2 specfically uses the Thales cathrine

also no, the thales cathrine FC sight is not gen 3, it is gen 2 754x576

Fleet-wide upgrades to Scimitar were carried out such that Formation Reconnaissance Scimitars used E-SPIRE, and Close Reconnaissance Scimitars used BGTI. Two thermal imaging systems that were used for different roles.
The two upgrades were carried out in near parallel - ESPIRE ~2001 for most FR Scimitars, and BGTI ~2004 during the span of the CVR(t) Life Extension Project where we were converting them to the diesel drivetrain. The majority of Scimitars had ESPIRE as they equipped full Regiments, where BGTI equipped Squadrons.

The BGTI Scimitars only went to FR regiments after we sold the E-SPIRE FR Scimitars to Latvia and FR regiments were split in to Light (wheeled) and Armoured (tracked) role Reconnaissance meaning they needed fewer Scimitars.
It was part of FR’s transition to Ajax - first they got Scimitars with BGTI transferred from tank regiment CR Squadrons to familiarise with the digital Battle Management System, then they got Warriors (with BGTI) to familiarise using a larger vehicle, then they got Ajax.

BGTI’s sight head will not fit inside the armoured housing on an E-SPIRE Scimitar - it’s physically too big. Installing BGTI also required cutting in to the turret roof to fit the sight head.
Scimitar Mk.2 has the same smaller housing as the E-SPIRE vehicles, but it contains M-SPIRE.
M-SPIRE used Catherine MP, not Catherine FC.

Here’s a nice close up image of the sight head on the Mk.2 Scimitar. It’s completely the wrong shape to be STAG-DA (BGTI)
