SAMs are too OP

I’ve never aimed for extreme realism, and I’m not starting now. My point is simply that realism is a spectrum that can be adjusted, and that’s all there is to it.

well one thing is true, warthunder is a game that atracts people that are on spectrum for sure (im certainly on spectrum lmao).

yes do this after fixing the tws switching bug

Alway sis anything OP. Playerbase is never happy. Make your own games if y’all aren’t happy

Personally I don’t think anti-air systems are ovepowered, those are a fair response to years of close air support ‘dominance’ in War Thunder and I wish for better rewards for people who waste their times on such boring gameplay just to help the team. Note this: “Help the team” in War Thunder. I’ve played some matches with the Rafale C F3, great plane and event better engaging other planes, my proposal is to make air-to-air weapons even more cheaper when instead of only staying in the ground people can bring the battle to the air easier and faster as possible.

Electronic Countermeasure still a very niche equipment, not every plane is equipped with, and when its equipped with said equipped is from pods and so. Returning to the Rafale C F3, I found that the presence of anti-air system, specially the german IRIS-T SLM, I initially thought those were super powerful and at the end of the day the only thing that requires is not flying directly to the battlefield; it may be because I don’t focus my time just to get bombs, probably destroy one target and get shot down right after, I think you get more from using ground vehicles in said gamemode.

Okay, but why include something in the game if you can’t realistically use it? Why give planes bombs at all? Why even have bombers?

Just now I was flying a MiG-29 and got shot down by an IRIS-T less than a minute after leaving my own base…and I was hugging the trees…

To put it mildly, if the game had actually implemented SAMs and their strengths, then CAS would have died out as a class of vehicles. Currently, all SAMs are nerfed.

For example, IRIS T, having real characteristics and modes of radar operation, jamming immunity, missile acceleration, matrix seeker; would simply destroy all aircraft on takeoff.

Because maps are not big enough, at least the spawn for airplanes are not further enough to be outside the effective range? This is my guess; IRIS-T SLM was a realistic implementation, nerfing it doesn’t make it any realistic at all, as people urge to say the game is realistic. Making the game fair for every vehicle, which honestly I wanted, is essentially making the game less realistic, since, if I’m not wrong most planes doesn’t engage targets that can reply with unguided bombs for example.

Though at the same time. CAS is also nerfed.

Looking at a reasonable aircraft that would be fighting the IRIS-T SLM, the Typhoon. Should have 18x Brimstone 2s that have 60km range, LOAL FnF capability. Let alone Brimstone 3s which further improve that range a bit or Spear-3s with 100km+ range.

Or something like the Tornado Gr4 which again, could and should have 18x Brimstones 1-2s with the same FnF, but also carrying 4x ALARM at the exact same time. So not only is the IRIS-T SLMs radar surpressed by the incoming ALARMs, but then the launchers and the rest of the team is wiped out by 60km FnF LOAL AGMs and the Tornado is still sat at 300ft.

At the moment, both aircrafts main A2G weapon is the SAL Brimstone 1. Now the Typhoon never used the Brimstone 1 and the SAL requires them to keep LoS of the target, within 20km to actually hit the target.

And this is true for a lot of top tier CAS at the moment, and CAS at many other BRs too

So… if anything. CAS is more nerfed than SPAA is at the moment. Especially at top tier

(also, BOL should be able to defeat IIR , it currently barely defeats IR missiles)

Bruh, sounds like a free frag for a pilot who has already earned a ton of points on ground vehicles. Modern SAMs should not be so stupid as to allow banal spamming of guided weapons on themselves.
IIR IRIS T must be protected from interference from laser IRCM. How this is done is unknown, perhaps when the matrix is irradiated the missile switches to DATALINK mode from the radar.

IRIS-T uses a scanning 2x128 px array, so its only affected in some steps through the scanning sequence.
if you cant use the lines because its fully blinded while looking, you could spin the seeker or the missile to build the 128x128 array again

If anything the SAMs are underperforming compared to their IRL counterparts.

Below top tier, which apparently includes 10.7 now, it is still a problem for Helicopters due to their limited dodging capability and the ineffectiveness of their countermeasures.

If you’re in a helicopter and an SPAA wants you dead there isnt much you can do without a mountain to hide behind.

I think that sounds like one way to counter IRCM. Switching to a datalink from the radar and rotating the seeker at the same time sounds reasonable, so as not to lose a half-million-euro missile on a stupid helicopter filled with lasers for rave parties.
In any case, judging by the trends in recent years, anyone who is not too lazy has been installing IRCM on aircraft, so even MANPADS should be able to counter them in 100% of cases.

Not every plane is going to be able to do effective cas in ground rb.

Because dumb bombs are not going to be a good choice when aa is active. Even irl, i doubt they would try dumb bomb runs when an IRST is active.

Air rb and air sim

I have not played top tier cas since the new spaa but at lower brs, the spaa usually dont cause much problems. At worst, i just have to spend some time climbing.

The new AA are extremely annoying and effective (which is fair, obviously), my usual strategy is to just throw glide bombs on them and rearm

Would be nice if they fixed SAMs and CAS, alongside increasing the range of engagements. Generally new SAMs are not that much of a threat, but simultaneously CAS can’t really get anything through them if they’re at all paying attention.

Not really much counterplay to either party at the moment, makes it a bit dull.

would also help if they FINALLY understood that one laser can only dazzle one thing at a time
so even if they refuse the sources we present, it’d still not be immune

What if I or someone wants to enjoy bombing real players with dumb bombs and rocket/cannon strafes in modern jets without being spawn spammed?

This is a fair point, and is exactly the reason why I suggested SEAD and EW capabilities be implemented.

But, I should also note, that many nations don’t have IRIS-Ts.
