I would really like some input in regards to anniversary sales and what would be best to get of these ships:
HMS Iron duke
IJN Yamashiro
USS Arkansas
SMS Nassau
RN Leonardo da Vinci
I have rank V in all nations except Britain, which is rank IV. I am looking for a ship that is somewhat competitive facing top ranked battleships and not just a pain to play.
Not just as a mindless grinder!
Hope for some good insights from those of you that have bought and used these ships!
Of all of them I would choose the HMS Iron Duke, good guns and good armor, probably the best balanced of the 5. I only play in RB and it has never let me down.
IJN Yamashiro is also an excellent choice as NOM1337AD comments, it has good cannons and if you know how to angle it correctly it’s hard to kill.
USS Arkansas is a ship that is simply not good, takes forever to reload and is easy to destroy.
SMS Nassau has a good reload, it is difficult to destroy if you angle it well, but its ammunition falls short because it pierces little.
RN Leonardo da Vinci I bought it taking advantage of the discounts but I don’t expect much from it as it is basically a glass cannon.
HMS Iron Duke: An excellent ship. The equivalent of the HMS Marlborough in the tech tree. One of my favorites. I have the Marlborough spaded. 88kg of TNT for the HE rounds wrecks cruisers and destroyers. I like it better than the Hood and the other 7.0 ships.
IJN Yamashiro: Another really good ship. Great guns. It’s fragile if you don’t angle, has a smallish crew count, and is a bit slow, but the guns more than make up for those shortcomings. It’s a Fuso from the tech tree without all the AA guns.
USS Arkansas: Disappointing. Another U.S. battleship that sufferers from slow reloads. This makes it not very fun, and not nearly as competitive as its peers.
SMS Nassau: The meta has long passed this one by. The guns are not up to the task of facing top tier ships. It’s survivable, but that’s about it.
RN Leonardo da Vinci: I just got this to grind the Italian naval tree past 5.0. Italian naval is painful until the Trento at 5.0. The Leonardo da Vinci can take a few hits, but not as many as other ships. It has a small crew. It’s got decent speed for its size. The guns are amazing. Low TNT filler on the AP round, but it pens anything in the game, and even that small filler will detonate magazines and shell rooms often. Good reload. It’s a bit of a glass cannon, but it’s literally the only premium choice for grinding. The RN Pola is just sad.
The Leonardo is only at 6.3, compared to Iron duke and Yamashiro. Does it face 7.0 all the time so it doesn’t matter anyways, or it sees mostly 5.7 - 6.3?
I have both Zara and Pola to use with it also.
I actually quite enjoyed the Italian ships, even though they might not be the best.

Seems consensus is that Iron duke will be a solid buy! Britain is the nation i need a grinder for the most also, so will probably go for that one!
I don’t have Leonardo, but with regular Italian 6.3 ships I’ve rarely seen uptiers and even if there were some strong BBs it’s usually possible to avoid them. Although I play at times when there are not so many people in queues. I kinda enjoy Italian Navy, despite people often say that it sucks, but to be honest this is the only naval nation I’ve fully researched so far and I haven’t played a lot of high tier naval battles recently.
There isn’t much to research in the Italian TT so far and Gaijin barely add new stuff to Italy, that’s why I think you don’t really need Leonardo, especially if you already have Zara and Pola, but it’s up to you of course. More necessarily to have PA imo.

Last time i played the Trento I remember it had a horrible listing when turrning hard. Hopefully that is fixed now!
Freccia as fast capper to complement the lineup…hope that thing has been nerfed since last i played naval.
Premium account is basically mandatory at higher ranks, sincce the rewards are abyssmal as it is.
It’s about 50/50. It honestly depends on a number of factors such as the time zone you play and whether you play arcade or realistic. It’s a spectacular ship for 6.3, and I think it will eventually be up tiered once people actually see Italian naval ships more often. Right now it flies under the radar because it’s rare to see them. In a full down tier, it’s an absolute menace, and the fact it’s still very competitive at 7.0 is why I bought it.
You will really like the Iron Duke though. It’s a very sold ship.
