SAAF JAS-39C Technical Data and Discussion

Hey does anyone notice that SA Gripen now don’t have VWS?

No JAS39 had VWS in game.

Well then, I guess this is the mod issue, I used OPEX Sound Mod.

Same here.

can the middile hardpoint that ingame is only used for a fuel pod be a mount for a bomb irl?

i am wondering this because i keep seeing this picture evrywhere:

but i can’t find where it originates

There is already an accepted report on it:

oh ok ty
(a year ago ;-;)

Yeah, it’s just forwarded as a suggestion, so they don’t need to implement it if they don’t think the vehicle needs it for balance. As far as i know the only Gripen that has been seen IRL with bombs on the center pylon is the Thai version.

is the thai version differant from the c variant?

Which is really crazy given its only 1x GBU or unguided bomb and there are aircraft at the same BR as the Gripen C with more A2G whilst simutaneously having more A2A capacity. F-16C for example that can run 2+2 fit with 6x AGM-65Ds vs the Gripen that can only run 4x AGM-65D/G with 2+0 fit

Would be really lovely in ASB as well, as it would give a little bit of ground pound without giving up A2A and in ARB would mean you could actually kill a base that would make the stock grind a little easier

The C is just a “Main” build (includes English cockpit, refueling nozzle, NATO compatibility, etc), every buyer can then choose how to configure the plane and what munitions to integrate. It’s build on a case by case basis.

The only Gripen user which isnt up to specs with every other Gripen is the SAAF IRL as they lacked the money to upgrade to MS20. The Thai Gripen is the same as every other user of MS20, in game they are all the same though.

I remember seeing an image of them once on a Gripen A on a document iirc. But that was years ago and is in a place I can no longer access

iirc, that was purely a prototype or something?

It was on a proto Gripen A, yea

are these the sky flashes? bottom left

Does that tail say “JAS29” ?? like twenty-nine instead of thirty-nine ??
I’m so confused. x)

Edit:
I think those are “Active” Skyflashes, meaning the prototype ARH version of Skyflash.

Iirc they were carried to test for AIM 120 as the Gripen wasn’t yet ready for service which is why the JA37D came to be as a stop gap till the Gripen was ready. I read that the early A model had a CW illuminator for the use of Skyflash but i dont believe they were fired at all. There are probably more knowledgeable people but thats what i remember.

2 Aim-9M 4 AGM-65 and one GBU-24 will surely make JAS39 Op in Gaijin eyes :)
