SAAB JAS 39E/F Gripen - General discussion

I know this is a Gripen E thread, but why is the Gripen C’s mechanical radar so butt, like it wont hold a tws lot to save its life, and after fly the 13.7 F-16C, that APG-68 works a lot better than the Gripen C’s radar.

There’s a LWS sensor that 's from SAAB’s IDAS but seems like this is more for rotary aircraft and larger fixed wing aircraft.

Think I’ll miss the slightly light airframe on the Gripen E once the next major update drops.

Gotta adapt to the new changes soon

Thats the NG, not E.

The JAS39C uses an upgraded version of the Sea vixens radar (if i remember correctly). I made a report for it when the C came to the game: Community Bug Reporting System

Dang wow 2 years ago 😳

Hornet players are so dumb honestly. They just cant keep themselves from hitting maneuver mode

Yeah, it’s all secondary sources with relatively vague numbers (but still numbers), the primary source has no actual numbers and only percentages so the increases in range for example has to be compared to secondary sources which makes things a bit harder to figure out. Additionally the JAS39C is not a specific version in-game, so technically the devs can choose what parts of what upgrades they want to add or not.

Do I need to remind that many domestic models actually uses export capabilities, Gripen wouldn’t be special in this case if your claim is right.

Yep. I’ve so far only seen it on the Brazilian one. Which would honestly make that variant a bit more unique if it comes to the game in the future.

The 6002 is a production prototype though so maybe an argument can be made? Not sure.

Got any examples of this? (munitions wouldn’t count here as those only need technical feasable/compatability)

MIG-29SMT.

It uses additional countermeasure pods thats not in service on Russian Air Force.

Rafale F-3R.

Domestic version doesnt use Scorpion HMD nor 8 missile configuration.

Su-34

In real life Russian models doesnt use RWR but rely on ground warning systems most of the time, so far only Algerian models have been seen with RWR’s.

Ka-52:

Same deal that goes on with Su-34.

Technically speaking Swedish Gripens should also be compatible with LWS system so this argument supports my claim even more.

Systems like AN/AAR-47 function as a MAWS and LWR. Could be a similar system?

Maybe, It looks like it’s an additional smal sensor next to the MAWS sensor.

I’ve only seen it advertised for Brazil and only mounted on the Brazil version.

I’m guessing that the AN/AAR-47 has something similar in terms of extra sensors for the lasers as well?

(Edited for clarity images and spelling.)

Now MiG-29KR too

I’m completely okay with 9KR treatment due to gameplay balance.

But if Gaijin can bend the reality for the sake of gameplay I don’t think Gripen should be problem in this case

I wouldnt call that bending the reality. Its a simple technical capability

Technically it is as in real life they dont use those equipments.

Its a objective state, however as long as there is technical compatibility I’m fine with it.

Ahh so its a Elbit Systems PAWS-2. Which doesn’t have a LWR, so yeah seems Swedish E’s don’t have a LWR fit.
