Mk.IV
Range > 300km
Improved seeker, can target land vehicles.
Home on jam (can turn into an ARM instead of ASM automatically if needed).
Re-engages and tries again if it misses (does a U and tries again from the other side).
Low observable (radar and IR stealth tech so it’s less detectable by air defences)
Those are just the things on the top of my head.
Edit:
Video of the Mk.II and Mk.II F live fire exersices:
Destroying boats has been a top priority for our airforce for decades. Especially when the RBS04 was developed and hung under A32 Lansen and later AJ37 Viggen. RBS15 is a continuation of the RBS04 but instead of a rocket motor for about 35km range it was doubled with a jet turbine. RBS15 was originaly known as RBS04 Turbo but was reshaped and moulded in to what it became over some time.
Mk4 is not remotely too op. It bridges the gap between Gripen’s stand off capability and the rest of the trees, the range being excessive matters little as we haven’t the means to target things any further than other trees.
Genuine question bc I’d love to see a little more love for the A32A (poor thing is ass), and the Viggen doesn’t have it either
Also, I just checked in game and the A32A is missing the Lansen part of its name
edit I found a suggestion for it thats been passed:
Depending on how the new target selection mechanic that is coming soon works we might soon have, not sure though. but you have a good point for the range actually.
Depending on what they mean here and how that works you might be able to target enemies you have detected (through things like a target pod or teammate spotting) and launch on their previously known position through map selection, which for top tier AA will 99% of the time be a static point.
i mean on radar they seem to have implemented a kinda snappon mechanic when visually selecting targets out in-front.
on dev, it’s basically the original poi system, but multiplied
Works just the same as our current targeting options. You just get the option to loose salvos of missiles now. Map marks are still just as imprecise as ever, and the payload + speed does not make mk4 particularly concerning for base destruction.
I cannot get this to function if it were intended. GMTI contacts are not updating aim points, and cannot really have aim points placed on them as they’re moving targets.
First time i’m seeing that, do you have any better sources for the procurement?
I’f there are credible sources for it i might try to find info on testing but i don’t want to spend all that time looking based on a news article that doesn’t list where it got the info :P
Same, i did a cursory search when i heard ARM’s were coming and found literally zero info so gave up relatively quickly. The closest we probably will get is if they make the RBS15F selectable between ARM and ASM modes.
Not sure if they would count this as ARM mode or not though:
Not really sure you could even make the case that it’s an ARM. Many AAMs have home on jam functionality, but we wouldn’t exactly make the case they’re ARMs. Unless you can prove it can be loosed with the mode set to home on emissions, it’s just a nice add on to ensure functionality of the munition.
