dont you think no ramjets exist in that class for a reason?
No because there is currently one being made for that class.
Should’ve posted the clip of the pilot talking about mounting a great sword to the nose
No, 200 km is the public range declared by the Greek Air Force. The true maximum range is likely quite a bit higher than that.
I guess the Greeks are just more open about its capabilities then. They also don’t have a + after the 200
Maybe 250km at the very most
Nope, higher than that too. Not by much, though
Where does that come from? An operator is putting 200km flat as the range
The man, the myth, the legend Mikael Grev
They say AIM-120C-7 has a maximum range of 40 nautical miles (74 km) - also without a ‘+’. So it seems entirely possible that they are significantly under-stating Meteor as well.
The British Defence Research Agency paper on a Ramjet powered air-to-air missile similar to Meteor puts the maximum range at 220 km for a Mach 0.9 head on launch at 6,000 m altitude. That could obviously be improved upon with a higher altitude / higher speed launch. Also note that it is the maximum range for an impact velocity of Mach 2.0, allowing a lower impact velocity would also lead to higher range predictions.
You can see in the table that a higher turn down ratio leads to better range. The table tops out at 10.0, which Meteor is known to have a TDR of “over 10”.
Another thing to note is that the missile theorised in the paper does not use a boron loaded propellant (which Meteor does). The paper notes that an advanced boron based propellant propellant could lead to a very significant increase in maximum range.
Spoiler

I will once again note that the missile described in this paper is not Meteor, however it is a TDR ramjet missile with a very similar design to Meteor. And the paper is written by the Defence Research Agency team at Pyestock, who were involved in the early designs studies for Meteor. So it is probably the best declassified information available on how TDR ramjet AAMs like Meteor behave.
Have you noticed that you have a tendency to downplay capabilities of certain missiles?
There is stuff to show that’s wrong though.
Does this paper account for the limited maximum altitude of a ramjet and drag created by the intakes?
If the paper is just for something “similar” then it doesn’t work very well either, many things could be different that would affect max range
Does the papers for AIM-120s account for the drag of the AMRAAM body and the conventional motor rocket’s limitations? See how absurd that sounds?
isnt that absurd, the other paper shown comparing the AIM-120 and Meteor did not account for the intakes aside from just the base drag
wha… what? I don’t think A2A missiles climb high enough for that to be an issue… the SR-71 operated at 20km+ altitude with no issues at Mach 3. Faster speed means higher altitude possible.
Which paper?

You can’t be comparing a university paper made by a random student to a government paper honestly. That other university paper would never be accepted by Gaijin as a source for example.
Ah, thx. Missed that part.
