SAAB 35 XD/F 35 WNDS Dev server thread

I see, the one I’m referring to has no ordinance mounted. There are only empty pylons, two pylons on the outer wings labeled for Aim-9b and J’s and two near the forward centre with the same label. I was not aware that museum pieces had these errors without mounted ordinance.

Thank you for the information.

Well, the pilots themselves would say 178 flares, or 154 chaff + 24 flares. MFCD and EMFCD add their own variety of flares and chaff, but I want to draw attention to what MFCD is,

“Modular Flare and Chaff Dispenser”

The F-35 pilots book already refers to the undertail dispensers as “flare catridges” in one image, while specifically calling out the chaff catridges on the EMFCD pods on the same page. The cassettes containing these flares are described as visually identical, and the fact the whole program was called MODULAR heavily implies they were interchangable by design, but standard operation was usually all chaff where available, as the aircraft was meant to do low flying strikes on enemy locations, vehicles and even radar (if you were brave enough) by doctrine. Therefore there was rarely a reason to supply all flares, but the modularity of it allowed them to be swapped. The only exceptions for this, were the right wing root flares (12) and the six on each side of the exhaust (12). Those were only flares as they could not be changed (and in the ultimate irony, those are the only ones Gaijin allowed us to change)

It only featured 12 flares on the right wing root, not both sides. 12 in the right wing, 12 on the tail, adding up to 24

From the pages you posted i understood it as the ALQ pods were modified to have the same dispensers as mounted underneath the tail. If it is possible to figure out what model these dispensers were, it would be possible to make a report about it.

I suppose the modification turning the ALQ into CM pods were made locally, possibly by Terma?

lol that hurts my head that they would do that. I do see in the diagram only one is shown. i just figured they would do the same for the other side haha

please make a bug report before the thing is finalized and they decide to not care about it anymore.

No idea by who or what their concrete name is. It was a Danish company though, that much I know, as per account of the pilots. Besides the name, they all come in cassettes of 11 pieces, chaff or flare. The EMFCD pods were equipped with five slots for these modular countermeasures. I admit I have not seen anything stating they used the flares for them, but also nothing saying they couldn’t. I suppose it is up to Gaijin based on that, until I can either get in contact with the pilots personally to confirm or deconfirm it

sob.

Well, they made it accurate as per the manual. I’m more happy about that than anything else, because it means they are keeping their eyes on the manual, and my work

By the way, i saw a report was made for the missing wimg pod CM dispensers. It was in russian, and they hadnt got a reply yet. At least last i looked.

Edit: It’s accepted and passed for consideration

well, they made an entire post about f-35, so i assume that it’s one of their priorities or something like that…

sweden is getting some attention for once

is there a report for 9N-2 too?

Is the F-35 1 1/2 available digitally? Ive tried to look for it, but couldnt find any…

With the skins datamined I noticed something on the demonstrator livery of our Draken. The most outer hardpoint I highligted. I might be mistaken but could this be the wing mounted countermeasure pod?
(Mind you this was not modeled before, looking back at the dev footage)

it is

It only can be. Yet another flawless victory for Danish vehicles in this game (though saying that, I probably jinxed it)

that thing is chaff only though, right?

Danish Draken is so cool. 100% just gonna GE this

According to the doctrine, yes it was only used as such. The debate comes in when we talk about the actual upgrade itself, and what it is. Modular Flare and Chaff Dispenser, aka MFCD (E is just Enhanced for EMFCD). In my book written by the pilots, there is this one particular page that specifically shows both the tail slots, and the EMFCD pods side-by-side. One image specifically describes the tail slots as “flare catridges”, and the other as “chaff catridges”.

It’s very delibarate wording and not just an interchangable term, and at the end of the segment explaining “Electronic Warfare” it specifically says "The total capacity, excluding jammer, amounted to 24 flare- and a maximum of 154 chaff cartridges.

The 24 flares that were always there, were the tail cone ones and the wing root ones, and were not modular by design (essentially the large countermeasures in the game). Now this could also refer to the fact the equipment of the jammer meant -55 in capacity as the jammer pod could not fit cassettes as well. Yet as seen in the images at the bottom here, the left one is referred to as flare catridges, and the right is referred to as chaff catridges. And yet they look to be the of the same design, or modular if you will, it would imply that they could be swapped for flares if so desired. I do not know the exact make of these cassettes, but I am starting to believe it may be Terma. I found a listing in the Aarhus Archives that were images of products from the 80s and 90s, but those were restricted access. Furthermore, on Terma’s own website, they state they were involved “From the Draken aircraft to the F-35 (Lightning II) fighter aircraft.”

Wikipedia (not great I know, but bear with me as I delve into finding answers) states they supplied critical electronics for it in the early 70s. This predates MFCD and EMFCD, but it at least gives them some connection to the entire lifespan of the aircraft. It’s something I am trying to dig into for a concrete answer, either through pilots, technicians or historical images.

And as I write this, I just discovered this video which shows the slots for the EMFCD wing root flares, albeit empty:

So we are slowly advancing somewhere!
