Zdravo. I want to suggest Serbia’s most advanced aircraft as of now (before their Rafales arrive), which I think would fit very well in the future, and I’m talking about the MiG-29SM :)
Description:
Spoiler
The Serbian Air Force and Air Defence, in Serbia known as Ratno vazduhoplovstvo i protivvazduhoplovna odbrana Vojske Srbije, shortened “RV i PVO”, which in English is translated as “War Aviation and Anti-Aircraft Defence of the Serbian Armed Forces” MiG-29SM is a modernized multi-role fighter aircraft. Known for its sleek, aerodynamic design, it is an upgraded version of the original MiG-29. The aircraft features advanced avionics and a reinforced airframe, making it a versatile and reliable asset for various missions. Its distinctive shape includes twin vertical stabilizers, a pointed nose, and large air intakes, contributing to its impressive performance and maneuverability. Something I thought is worth mentioning is that it’s also more one of the first “multirole” Fulcrums, due to it having lot’s of guided weapons for ground targets, which it can use ofc. If I’m not mistaken, it’s still uses a MiG-29A airframe, thus being more lighter, and gets better RWR compared to the 29SMT, however does get worse radar.
History:
Spoiler
The MiG-29SM is a modernized variant of the MiG-29, a fighter aircraft originally developed by the Soviet Union during the 1970s. Designed to counter advanced Western fighters such as the F-15 Eagle and the F-16 Fighting Falcon, the MiG-29 made its first flight on October 6, 1977, and officially entered service in 1983. Over the years, the MiG-29 has seen numerous upgrades to enhance its performance, resulting in various models including the MiG-29SM.
In 2016, Serbia received six MiG-29 aircraft from Russia as a donation, which compared to other aircraft back then, was quite a massive upgrade. These aircraft underwent extensive upgrades to the MiG-29SM standard, with the assistance of Russian specialists. The modernization process involved updating the aircraft’s avionics and radar systems, reinforcing the airframe, and integrating new weaponry. The upgraded MiG-29SMs were officially handed over to the Serbian Air Force in October 2017 during the Sloboda 2017 exercise at Batajnica Air Base.
Today, the Serbian Air Force operates a fleet of MiG-29SM aircraft, which play a crucial role in the country’s defense strategy. The MiG-29’s might be replaced by Rafales however, as Serbia did successful orders on them, which should be delivered around 2029. Serbia (well, Yugoslavia) tried to do business with Dassault already during the 90’s with the Novi Avion project, but that got cancelled due to the Yugoslav Collapse.
