Russian ERA Vs. APFSDS

So I have been playing some higher tier ground lately, and I have noticed that for some reason APFSDS with over 600mm of pen is just swallowed by russian ERA., I know there’s some factual basis on this, but at this point, it seems quite unrealistic that an ERA that, from what I have read, shouldn’t absorb the round but only slow it down some. So I’m just wondering what’s up with it just causing the round to vanish and not actually do anything (at all) to the tank?

For reference, I’m talking about stuff like the M1A1 HC with the M829A2 vs a T80 or T72

It does more than just slow it down. Most heavy ERA uses flyer plates (4S22, 4S23, etc.), which, when the ERA tile is struck, fly out towards the incoming round. This causes deformations, fractures, destabilizations, and just overall damage to the striking round. There are ways to bypass ERA with kinetic rounds, but this is mostly just on newer rounds such as M829A3 and M829A4. Also, in game, M829A2 can sometimes already defeat Kontakt-5.

ERA some times behave so strangely I got non pen with the Object 292 and I remember Gaijin doesn’t use actual penetration values.

ERA can and will deflect APFSDS. The only surefire munitions that ignore ERA are DU penetrators - something that has not really come to game yet (Looking at the snail and back at the SEP V2, side glancing the Object 292 with anger) and most likely for balancing reasons. Same way you will find most tandem-charged munitions does not actually tandem charge.

Current munitions in game the ERA deforms the the round outer shell preventing it from digging into the armor, thus changing the impact angle of the core of the round and that again.

but its not deflecting it, it just sends the round into the void if you watch the hit camera, like the round go into the ERA then keeps going as if its become a ghost

They aren’t supposed to. They damage the round enough so when it hits the vehicle’s base composite armor they are not able to penetrate.

well if thats the case hey need to either buff the US 11.7 rounds or nerf the Era because its honestly overpowered when you cant get a shot at their LFP or breech because of blurry thermals

Don’t shoot things while using thermals. Only find them. Even with second generation thermals, or even third I would always say just use the normal sight to shoot things.

DU exists. Rounds like M774 are DU

they help when they use cover at range

Not in context though.

Certain munition types are held back (as confirmed by bug report). For example - Tandem charge Mokopa. USSR & CHN Relies heavily on ERA and for that, in sake of game balance, does not have full capabilities as it would make the game unplayable for 2 to 3 nations.

I do not argue the reason and understand as to why.

Then why did they add the KH-38MT which outranges all SAMs in the game by a wide margin?

It is what it is. I mean, South Africa HEAVILY relies on tandem charged munitions and just look at what happened to the Mokopa.

Driver and Gunners in the front have quantum properties, you shoot there, but the round passes through like they aren't there.

510mm of protection here? and the spot being hit is not in front of a ERA fly plate

Right behind this 412 mm of protection are the Gunner, Commander, H-drive

The spall from shot side-on, directly between H-drive & Auto-loader, doesn’t damage either component. Wasn’t the whole implementation of a turret basket module so that when you shoot the center mass of a tank side on, it takes critical damage and can’t return fire?

How much "protection" here?

726 mm?!?!?!? Mind you, behind this bug is the commander, gunner and H-drive

78 mm "protection" right here

Commander and gunner, horizontal drive, all behind the point of impact, take no damage because of quantum technology

Excuse me?

I beg your pardon?

Right next to that spot, no richochet, only ammo damage, if they have any ammo left there. H-drive undamaged,

Hey, @QuadOpossum4122-live
you say the striking round is overall damaged because as the dart makes contact and pierces the composite, from where it possibly slows down relative to its velocity prior to impact, the ERA fly plate shoots outwards in the relative direction where the round struck the tile and damages the dart in less time than it takes for any part of the dart to pass the plane of movement that the ERA fly plate shoots out, which is either parallel, or directly in front of the fly plate?

They should add these. M829A3 and A4.

Did you know that M900 flat on the side of a BMPT centermass nonpens and then the BMPT can turn and kill you when you are reloading?

yes, that’s what I’m saying:

you shoot center mass, where the commander and gunner are, and its like the BMPT has quantum crew, only hit the ammo, or the armor value says

BMPT vs. M900

581 mm here

but only 76 mm right here

this is why Russian ERA “eats” darts

Needs to be fixed…ahem GAIJIN PLEASE

dont shoot the ERA
