And that’s the million dollar question how little could they use and still get the desired effect. .1 inches .25 who knows. What is known is weight was reduced in the armored inserts by combining ceramics and elastics with the DU and steel to accommodate for extra weight.
Mind you this is all conjecture. Reading the documents the DOD was very adamant about keeping non essential weight to a minimum to accommodate for an extremely dense metal.

it is tho now very meta it wasnt a push over in that era it was completely fine
back in old lobbys due to old multipathing height it didnt matter much but now it matters a lot
at 13.0 almost nothing comes close
Yeah and 1 month after introduction it got speed nerfed and 5 more to change lock range from 10km to 4km. Meanwhile SM-SV will still the king in top tier for a long time, just as S1 was before.
How its a 250lb glide bomb better than a big TNT supersonic missile??? The stormbraker advantage its range, which for this game its useless
i hate to agree with puppygirl but that plane was legit useless during that time. 100m multipath meant ER’s were useless and periodic + BOL meant R73s were not going to hit anything.
It was a push over, the definition of mediocre

If I recall there are 3 generations of the DU arrays, it’s not unreasonable to assume that the 1st gen may have been too heavy for the hull, but later generations where lighter and could be used, the issue is it’s all classified and we can only really guess.
There is also the issue that NERA relies more on the interactions between the elements rather then the individual properties of each material, so trying to guess at how effective it is completely pointless.
mediocre maybe but not unusable even back then they had altitude locked down no one at toptier could play height which is a huge advantage
You can only use MITL one by the time. Which can get intercepted very easily, dropping them the old way its better and faster, but still not good in compare with KH38

i was able to intercept 6 GBU53’s today and kill the 15E that launched them in an Adats. With the Kh38 its either i go for the plane and maybe trade or instantly go for the missile.
Those 2 weapons arent even comparable in grb

KH38s are very hard to intercept cause of its speed
I remember also sometimes missiles when proxy fuse it does not destroy the kh38 or saclos missiles sometimes not proxy activating at all.

Damn you need sleep lol i think your misunderstanding though, the DU wasn’t designed to stop KE all together, it was designed to frag it enough that the armor behind it could catch the pieces. Hence the use of ceramics elastics and steel inserts spaced appropriately. APFSDS is only strong if it’s punching in a straight line, if it comes into contact with something that disrupts that line the penetrating power is greatly diminished.
Tungsten which I’m sure you are aware is the metal used in most APFSDS rounds, is extremely dense and hard, it does not like to bend. When it comes into contact with another equally as dense metal it’ll tend to shatter. And in a long rod format like APFSDS once the leading half breaks there’s no linear path for the rest of the rod to follow
