History
After the war a few SC-497 class sub chasers were received by the Republic of China Navy however only 3 went on to serve after othered were lost. The first couple of SC class of subchasers were first received by China in 1947 with SC’s 704 and 708. They were renamed to 驅潛一號 (SC No. 1) and 驅潛二 號 (SC No. 2) respectively.
In 1948 8 more were received however only 驅潛三號 (SC No. 3) former SC-698 successfully became part of the navy. The rest were either scrapped, sunk in disaster, or just not received due to damage.
SC No. 1 surrendered to the communists in Guangzhou with other gunboats of the fourth gunboat team in 1949. In 1957 SC No. 102 (former SC No. 2) was damaged by typhoon Carmen near Lanyu island on Taiwan’s south eastern coast. One transported Chiang Kai Chek during his visits to Penghu island in the mid 1950’s.
One anomaly I’ve seen with them is that most of the images I’ve seen their 40mm bofors cannon was removed in favor of a 20mm gun.
