RN Giulio Cesare

Greetings fellow Italian Naval Enjoyers. With the long awaited addition of the RN Francesco Caracciolio Italy is now down to only one Battleship class not in the game. The RN Roma will be here eventually, of that there is no doubt. However, it does leave the question of what to do with the RN Giulio Cesare.

Now, the Cesare is a Cavour class. And the Cavour class has two of its three ships in game already. The eponomous Cavour in its final, heavily modernized refit, and The da Vinci in the class’ “as built” configuration. There is a third option for the class. Like the Duilio class the Cavours got a mid 20’s refit. The mid 20’s refit for the Duilio class is represented by the RN Andrea Doria. However, the Cavours do not have a ship in the mid 20’s configuration in War Thunder. For both of these classes the refit basically gave the ships a small AA armament and a float plane (the Macchi M.18 WHICH IS STILL MISSING FROM THE DORIA IN THE GAME BTW). I would also like to point out that the Cesare is already in the game as the Novorossiysk BB in the Russian tree. (It was given as war reparations to the Russians after WW2).

Therefore, the Cesare could come to the game as a mirror of the Da Vinci, a mirror to the Cavour (similar to the Novorossiysk already in game), or as a “new” 1926 variant that would be very similar to the RN Andrea Doria in game.

With all of this understood I believe that it should probably come as the final Premium Battleship for Italy. This would happen in line with the big boys coming to the game. When the Bismarck, Yamato, Iowa, Vanguard, Richelieu, come to the game (and similar ships) we will be seeing a big jump in capability of battleships. This will extend the BR’s and open up the possibility for a higher tier Premium BB to come to the game for all nations. I would personally rather have one of the Roma’s as a Premium, but I don’t think they will do that.

If it doesn’t come as a premium then it should be an event vehicle in it’s final, fully modernized form.
I really think it would be a waste to do as built (identical to the da vinci) or the 1926 (we already have the Dante and the Doria at that BR). I also think it should not be TT as it is basically identical to the Cavour in the game. It should definitely be a Premium or event.

What do you guys think?

P.S. Where is muh M.18 on muh Doria???

There wasn’t such case before in the game, with the same ship represented in both TTs, so I doubt that they will ever add Cesare to Italy.
Not that I’m against it, after all it’s the Italian ship, but imo the tree wouldn’t lose much without it. For me apart from going futher with more advanced Littorio class (hopefully with as many ships of the class as possible), it’s also necessary to add ships in-between, such as late pre-dreadnoughts of Regina Elena and Margherita classes, as well as late armored crusers of Pisa and San Giorgio classes.

I agree with this completely and wholeheartedly. However, with the dearth of Battleships available to Italy I firmly believe each one should find a use. I also believe that a top end Premium will require either this ship or a Roma class. And I doubt they will do a Roma.

We’ll see.
