Description:
HMAS Diamantina was one of twelve River-class frigates built for the Royal Australian Navy during the Second World War, where she would see fighting in the Pacific campaign. She was named after the Diamantina river, which flows through central Queensland.
This suggestion is for her fit at the end of the Second World War in 1945.

History:
Ordered on the 16th August 1941, to be built by Walkers Ltd in Maryborough, Queensland. She was laid down on the 12th April, 1943, launching on the 6th of April the next year. She would commission at Hervey Bay on the 27th April 1945, whereupon completion she would sail for Sydney for trials, concluding in June.
As she commissioned so late in the war, she would see very little action. However, she would travel to the Solomon Islands, transporting several high ranking officers along the way. She would see action when she transferred to the Bougainville campaign, providing fire support for Australian Army units in the area from July to August. She would also preform counter battery fire on Taiof Island.
In September she would return to the Solomon Islands, where she would embark Lt.Gen Kanda, and Vice Adm Samejima for passage to Torokina, for the official surrender of the Japanese forces in the Solomon Islands. The same day she would visit Naru, where she would also receive their surrender.
She would precede for Sydney with 78 passengers, arriving on the 13th of December where she remained until the 1st of February 1946, where she would embark on a patrol in New Guinea, finishing and returning to Sydney in June. She would then be placed into reserve on the 9th of August 1946. This is unusual, as she was barely a year old at the time.
She would be given a new life on the 22nd of June 1959, where after thirteen years in reserve she would commission as an Oceanographic Research Ship, receiving a refit at the same time. The four inch guns were removed, an extra 40mm Bofors was added fore, and all the single Oerlikon mounts were removed, being replaced by two twin mounts. Her pennant number was also changed.
She would serve in this role until the 29th of February 1980, where she was handed over to the Queensland Maritime Museum, where she would be permanently dry-docked in the South Brisbane Dry Dock where she survives today.
