In the new flag selection feature the Rising Sun/Japanese Naval Ensign is not avaliable. The last major update changed the flag to the modern Japanese flag. With the new feature being able to select older flags/operator country flags to display on your main menu ui now we should have this as an option for selection.

That makes no sense as they stated the reason for the change was:
“The Japanese naval ensign (Rising Sun Flag) has been replaced with the Japanese national flag to better match most flags used in the game.”

Probably just an oversight. Before, there was no Modern Japan flag and instead just one universal Imperial Japan. There’s a few nations missing in the flag section.
EG You can’t pick Israel in the US or UK tree (even if you own the Merkava / Sho’t), you can’t pick France in the UK Tree, etc.
Worth waiting for a response or bug reporting. It might just be that since Japan never used the Imperial Naval Flag as their National flag, it doesn’t fit. Whereas all of these other flags are national flags.
Edit: In game, the old vehicles don’t have the Imperial Naval Ensign either. So I assume it is just National Flags, which Japan has never really changed. (LIVE)

I figured. If that’s the case, they should add the military flags for all the Nations, example: the US army flag, or Japanese navel flag.

Yeah all these countrys get some naval flags, so Japan should get the Japanese Naval Ensign

Yeah, it wouldn’t be a problem if other’s ships doesn’t get naval flags, but in same time japanese ships gets national flag instead of naval.
I know many likes jap. navy flag, but i wanted national flag all this time, but anyway if everyone have navy flag japans also must

That’s because it’s not a national flag.
The flag wasn’t changed to the modern Japanese flag, it was changed to the flag used for over 100 years.
No other country is using non-national flags in War Thunder.

would be funny to see some changelog for some vehicles “changed to modern japanese flag”
This was different before the last major update, the older vehicles did have the rising sun flag and the new ones didn’t.
They all had same flag, but toptier had “subtree” flag of modern Japan

also in this case Japan must have two closely same flags, because changed their flag in 1999.
redacted: My bad, i found info about “change of flag”, from 1885 till 1999 there was no official national flag so in 1999 they just made Red Sun official
But it true aren’t it? normally Gaijin don’t remove something without Reason that flag been in the game since day one of the game
ROC don’t get its national flag. Current one is only a army flag
