Another point with realistic thermals that doesn’t get pointed out often is just thermal emission off of vehicles and terrain. Thermal signatures of vehicles get affected by ambient temperature and weather which would mean on a cold winter map all vehicles should be glowing candles but in hot desert maps the tanks would be blending in much more due to how hot the ground is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-WTgdiP74w
A big thing is terrain thermal signatures as well. Right now the current thermal emission of the ground terrain is just plane which doesn’t correctly portray what thermals would see IRL, this would help make hiding from thermals easier allowing thermals camouflages to work better as well.
where as in real life terrain should be a splatter of hot and cold spots due to shade objects such as, grass, trees while also varying from the different types of material on the different surfaces due to its heat conductivity. This doesn’t need to be simulated at all, this could just be painted on objects and stay the way it is in set weather conditions
Winter
hot weather
These images also show how cold the exterior of some tanks can get while still being hot in the specific regions. where as right now all war thunder vehicles just glow while having even brighter spots
