Responding to the Severe Damage feedback & release time

I know this has been around for a while but even though Gaijin denies this was an earnings nerf:

How many zeros have you earned since this “mechanic” was implemented?

Oh, this was a terrible addition from the get-go. You are suppose to get 80% of the reward for severly damaging someone. If you finish them off, you got the remainder 20% and if someone else did, they got 20% plus another 20% (never explained from where), making an aircraft worth a max of 120%. You straight up got nothing.

I would like to remind everyone, that there’s a game breaking bug that causes the game to:

  • treat black horizontal stab as severe damage, despite next to 0 impact on flight characteristicd
  • completely ignore elevator destruction or loss of tail controls, despite both making planes absolutely incapable of fighting (outside of using gunners) and in 49 out of 50 cases - causing them to crash, rather sooner than later.

That bug has been reported around the introduction of severe damage and Gaijin has made 0 effort to fix it, thus I routinely lose a perfectly combat capable aircraft at the end of the match (gets written off, as I have 0 reason to land with such superficial damage so I continue to engage the enemy) as black horizontal stabilizer without loss od elevator happens quite damn often.

Some plane can still manage to fly back to base even when elevator damage.

This is imho a matter of the used aircraft.

So i my SM91 i am dead if somebody shoots off the central elevator, my SM 92 can fly back with one parr missing and i managed to land and repair without an elevator twice in the Chinese P-38 L - with a mix of air brake, flaps and throttle.

Needless to mention that i was both times hit by a Pe-8 whilst extending😂

Probably it’s intentially, so that players can score kills by just landing a few lucky shots.

Well, yeah, but same applies to missing wing, yet it counts as severe damage anyway. I’ve actually scored kills in Wyvern while missing wing (I received severe damage) on several occasions. I landed quite a lot of planes in this condition.

There’s no arguing that missing elevator/tail controls is a big deal.
And surely it’s a bigger deal than black goddamn stabilizer which does nothing to a plane.

That’s kind of a generalized issue with aircraft.

Other than pilot deaths or literal disintigration, you can with skills recover almost any other damage using full-real controls to override instructor (or use it already).

You can even turn no-problem with both ailerons gone using rudder pedals.

You can control pitch with power and flaps.

Rudder I’d say is the worst thing to lose because now you can’t offset left-turning tendencies and get major sideslip which when you turn is going to rapidly put you into either a skid or a slip which will stall one wing which will spin you out which you cannot recover without a rudder. Suddenly throttling up/down will spin you out. If you fly super silky on the controls you can RTB but you need to have been flying straight when you lost the rudder to begin with.

Ironically losing a rudder is not severe damage. I’ve killed a spitfire by shooting its rudder off and I got an assist as it spun into the ground because someone else did damage that didnt actually affect its flight capabilities.

Rudder is survivable in Air RB. Should count as critical each time, though. Make it severe in sim. But hey, why bother fixing anything, when you can just watch and laugh at players struggling with bugs you introduced?
