Hello there,
I’ve been playing War Thunder since around 2018 and after several weeks of grinding the French air tree, I was looking forward to finally getting into some of the more modern jets.
I’ve now finished researching the F-100D, only to realize that I still need to research and purchase both the F-84G and the Aquilon, two aircraft I’m not interested in playing.
That’s an additional 200,000 RP plus the SL needed to purchase both aircraft on top of the F-84F and F-100D themselves.
What I find confusing is that the game allowed me to research the F-84F and F-100D in the first place even though I couldn’t actually purchase them without completing these other branches. Sure, there were red arrows indicating the missing prerequisites which I admittedly overlooked, but that doesn’t change the fact that I was able to spend weeks researching aircraft I can’t buy. If these requirements prevent purchasing an aircraft, shouldn’t they also prevent researching it, or at least come with a clearer warning before committing RP (and a lot, lot of time) to it?
I understand the need for progression requirements, but it feels counterintuitive to let players invest weeks into researching aircraft only to discover additional requirements when they’re finally ready to purchase them.
At the very least, these requirements could be communicated more clearly before starting the research? Ideally, if an aircraft is available to research, it should also be available to purchase once that research is completed, I don’t know.
It’s a bit discouraging to finally reach the jets I’ve been looking forward to for years only to have to spend another 200,000 RP on aircraft I never intended to play, instead of progressing towards the next rank.
Anyway, if you’ve made it there, thank you for reading this little rant of mine which hopefully may lead to some positive change, or at least that’s the hope I had while writing allat
