Research points mechanic

Can’t find any FAQ on this, so I’ll try to ask here. I’m a “veteran” (played extensively, now back after a prolonged pause, but not very “skilled” haha), but after all these years I didn’t figure out what happens to the XP I earn for maxed vehicles. Does it all go to waste? If yes, what’s the point in playing with already maxed vehicles, besides the amount going into vehicle research even with unmaxed vehicles, plus the benefit of having a battle advantage over players that play with unmaxed vehicles?

having fun (its a game)

Playing with spaded vehicle: you get to use the plane with its actual performance metrics and have fun and work on gaining RP for your personal skills without being handicapped by a vehicle that fails to do what it should.

Depends a bit, for the most part; yes. BUT if you are playing ground vehicles you do have the option to make the RP go towards researching the helicopters of the same nation.

For Air/Ships the RP doesn’t go anywhere and is indeed “lost”.

For fun ^^

Edit:
Likely you still haven’t maxed out the crew still so RP still goes towards increasing crew skills.

Having an useful bonus (extra RP on new vehicles, or maybe an “elite” status that earns more cash) would be a nice plus :)

but it doesn’t add up the “wasted” RP to the crew skills, right? :)

If I remember correctly the crew points is directly correlated to how much RP you get for the specific vehicle you are using. So yes, you get crew points for the “wasted” RP (otherwise maxed vehicles would never be able to level up their crew).
For example using the vehicle in crew slot 3 gives only crew points to crew 3 and not the others.

Basically no point. A spaded vehicle is of help when grinding for events and the like, but speaking purely on research terms, no reason to play something once spaded.

ARB: Got 13162 RP in F8E. Crew started at 302 XP, got 450 XP afterwards. (no premium, or boosters)
GRB: Got 1666 RP in single spawn conqueror game. Started 0 XP, got 18. (no premium or boosters).

Expected formula should be 1 XP per 100 RP. I’m somehow earning more than that (not that I’m complaining.)

Sounds about right at first glance :) it might also be rounding the numbers and not counting skill bonuses or something.

Found this on the wiki:

" Crew experience is gained in the form of “Crew Experience Points”, earned by participating in battles. The number of points accrued for crew experience depends on the research points obtained in a battle, as well as the game mode of the battle. In Realistic and Simulator battles, for every ~100 RP the player will receive 1 crew XP point which can be distributed to the crew of the vehicle used in that battle. In Arcade battles, every 100 RP will grant the player 3 crew XP points, but this higher rate also has the crew experience spread out among multiple available crews."
