War Thunder has a large and passionate Chinese player base. We have been deeply engaged in this amazing game, but there is one aspect that leaves us longing for more - the lack of a comprehensive Chinese naval vehicle research and development line.
In the game, the five major powers all have their own well - developed naval research lines, which allows players of these nationalities to experience the evolution and might of their respective navies. However, for Chinese players, we are somewhat left out in this regard. China has a rich naval history, especially in the early days. There were a wide variety of warships, from small patrol boats to larger destroyers and cruisers. These vessels, if properly represented in the game, could form a complete and fascinating research line.
A complete Chinese naval research line would greatly enhance our enthusiasm for the game. It would not only satisfy our patriotic feelings but also provide us with more strategic choices and gameplay experiences. We could relive historical naval battles from a Chinese perspective, and compete with players from other countries on an equal footing in naval battles.
We sincerely hope that the development team can consider adding a Chinese naval vehicle research line. We believe that this will not only enrich the game content but also attract more Chinese players and increase the global popularity of War Thunder. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
It’s not about China but about naval in general. Gaijin hates naval and hasn’t even added the late WW2 ships to the game despite having added all modern tanks and even the ones that are still in development like the Challenger 3. I don’t know why does Gaijin hate naval so much and is neglecting it since this game mode was added and I don’t agree with the “naval is not popular so Gaijin doesn’t focus on it” excuse since it is a loop caused by Gaijin itself that neglected naval in the first place which led to the decrease of its popularity.
They were a brownwater fleet for much of the modern era with only the past decades seeing it build up a vast and impressive blue water fleet of ships that don’t fit into the game.
The only battleship they had was a ironclad as the Navy of that era had ambitions but never the funding to purchase any
Domestically you’ve got the two slightly different Ning Hai cruisers with 25mm of armor and 6 140mm guns, once of which could make for a premium.
A variety of early armored cruisers that usually only had a couple 152mm mounts.
The two laid down but never delivered cruisers ordered from Italy.
An Arethusa class from British.
And then a bunch of reparation destroyers from Japan and several classes of destroyers from the US.
They could build up a coastal tree easily enough but there’s no bones to build up a blue water tree.
A Chinese Bluewater tree is possible if we remove the stigma of trees having to reach top tier; which in itself is unlikely but possible on gaijins part. (Israel is this but backwards)
Tbh, if a tree has good enough coastal but lacking Bluewater (excluding missile ships) then maybe the bluewater vessels could just be slotted at the top of the coastal tree?
The game’s current technology level could not support the modern PLAN, and you’d be hard-pressed to build a tree with any of the earlier 20th century craft. I assume this is why Gaijin has never discussed a Chinese tree up to this point.
Therefore, I think if anything they should build a Chinese coastal tree. There should be enough riverine vessels from the ROC era topped off with early USSR analogues serving under the PLAN. You’d have a mix of technology from different nations, just like the early ground and air trees. I’d also like to see the Insect-class gunboat in the game, and a Chinese tree could be an avenue to see it added.
China is about as ww2 naval power as russia lmao.
It would only be modern coastal and some pre ww1 ironclads at best (that got deleted in sino japanese war). Or more paper cancer like russia needs to be any competative.
Wonderful, thank you for digging this up from a few years ago. Like many nation additions in the past, I’m sure we’ll see something take shape regarding China in the future, but I would not be surprised if it takes a very long time.
At minimum, we know there’s more battleships to add and they’ve done substantial work on submarines, so I suspect that will be their focus in the near future. Since the community of vocal naval players is so small, they seem to be more willing to completely upend core parts of the game at seemingly random intervals, so I suspect we will see gameplay surprises down the line as well.
They not only have copied Soviet ships, and also have some second-hand ships from allied countries or war prize from IJN.
For PRC: Type 51 is a copy of Pr.56, Type 053(6601) is a copy of Pr.50, Type 6607 is a copy of Pr.7U, they both already in Soviet tech- tree. For larger ship, due to an uprising to against nationalist army, they can have a Arethusa-class cruiser HMS Aurora, and also they can have some Japanese Kaibōkan from the war reparations. For boats, they will have such as Pr.123k, Pr.122, they were built with the help from soviet specialists in 1950s.
For ROC: They have pretty much supply from American, such like LCS boats, DE, and some DD, but they also have some ships from IJN’s war reparations. For example ROCN have Buckly class , Cannon class , Fletcher class, Gearing class , Akizuki class , Matsu class , Minekaza class and Kagero class.
So there is no meaning to add a whole copy tech-tree form other countries.
