Maybe it could be redesignated as a light tank and given arty & scouting, like the m18. it was already moved into the light tank line after all.
edit: I discovered my glaring oversight: the gun shield does not move up and down with the gun and THAT is what’s limiting it in depression.
I feel like this vehicle should have much more gun depression than -4 degrees.
Even allowing for gross misalignment of the circle etc, I’d feel safe saying there’s at least 10 degrees worth of depression on that vertical drive.
Likewise for the other direction there’s much more room on the mechanism than 20 degrees.
The gun depression is the one written in book, so if no new doc will pop-up with new data it would stay at that value.
About the elevation is normal to see “more room” because the cannon was derived from the AA 90mm that have an high elevation and poor depression.
Yeah, makes sense.
Was just frustrated while playing it, and 20 degrees elevation is plenty as it doesn’t get an AA shell (maybe better off using the rearward facing machine guns, but even better off not attracting attention).
Breda 501 to be perfect (without changing its BR) should have side armour toggleable IN GAME (not in modifications), the right amount of crew and fix its ammunitions: ATM stock and free ammunition is better then researchable one…Breda 501 (same issue on Breda 90/52 and 90/53 M41M) is not a german vehicle!
PS: I’d like to know if APCBC and APHEBC trigger “Overpressure” with the same amount of filler.
PPS: give Italy 4.7 another medium tank pls!!!
The sides of the truck are only 8mm RHA, meaning they barely offer protection against 8mm guns and probably just generate extra shrapnel when penetrated. They also don’t go high enough to protect crew and will block the gun breech.
I haven’t checked the ammo too carefully yet (the stock ammo is plenty good enough, to be fair), but knowing how Pz.38(t) ammo works there could be some advantage that is not displayed on the ammo statcards.
Pz.38(t) has stock ammo (Pzgr. 34(t)) and researched ammo (Pzgr.(t) umg) which look nearly identical statwise… 9m/s difference in muzzle velocity, 1mm penetration difference here and there, both APC… but the researched one has massively more post-pen damage, generating a lot more crew kills from shrapnel while the stock one rarely does.
But as I said the stock ammo on Breda 501 doesn’t feel like it needs to be more powerful, 347g filler makes it a nuke shell with overpressure. I’m leaving mod.43 ammo as final modification to research for now.
I recall seeing someone quote a dev (or other gaijin representative) that overpressure is strictly about having enough filler (170g or more) and not dependant on ammo type and based on my own testing you just need that and for the shell to deal damage to something in what the game counts as fighting compartment (crew, breech, ammo, vertical/horizontal drive, some others).
Because of this requirement, a KV-2 shell fired from top down into an engine compartment (in protection analysis) is not likely to overpressure kill due to engine absorbing/blocking some shrapnel and the rest not being directed towards fighting compartment, but shooting through the engine from behind the target will overpressure (some shrapnel generated from the penetration will likely get past the engine).
I bring HEAT shells instead of HE for overpressure killing various milktrucks these days as they tend to have same or even more filler than HE shells of those vehicles where both are available. However, while I haven’t noticed it being the case in actual battles, protection analysis fails to render an overpressure kill sphere if the cumulative jet of HEAT damages something important (but will if the jet misses everything).
About the side armour I think he would like to be raised/downed with a trigger button because it would be more comfortable for movement because with the plates lowered the vehicle stucks on trees and can’t go in narrow streets as before.
Alternatively, sharpen the leading edge so it cuts those darn trees in a single neat slice!
… have to admit it’s rather annoying getting stuck so definitely support that idea. And it would still retain a frontal attack cone without breech collision.
What I would most like to see is that the Breda 501 can get a crew located in the hull, so that he with armor protection can have better survivability when hit by enemy machine guns. I don’t understand why gaijin only adds one driver when there are two crew
In addition, the side armor should also be added as a modification that can be raised and lowered at its own option, rather than being changed to an immutable appearance
