As you all know, crew lock is a mechanism where in the case of prematurely leaving a match, will make it so that you are unable to play until the cooldown expires. Although this aims to discourage and prevent 1-death leaving, it does so poorly and it instead backfires on people who are disconnected from a match.
Why It Doesn’t Work
Crew lock only works under the circumstance that the player is using a full lineup. Although it is more common to see players using a full lineup, there are people who use one-vehicle lineups which means crew lock won’t even affect them if:
The player dies or suffers damage before leaving the match
They can fill the rest of their empty slots with other vehicles
Disconnection From Matches
This is the most straight up aggravating part of crew lock. You go into a match, not even being able to play and now you have to wait 7mins? They should at least at least make a mechanism where if you left the match due to connection issues, they compensate you with a certain amount of SL.
It also means if people with a larger line up do either D/C part way through the match or leave for whatever reason, will just re-que with the vehicles that are not locked, so they end up leaving early twice instead of once.
The server can’t tell the difference between someone losing connection due to network problems and someone rage quitting by unplugging their LAN cable.
Imo the main problem with crew lock is what it’s trying to accomplish — 1DL. “you left after one death I’m gonna punish you by forcing to leave after one death muahaha that’ll teach you, twerp” isn’t a logically sound solution, and instead they should reward players tremendously by staying instead of punishing those who leave. However, if they leave the match without even spawning, then crewlock is fine, and I would go so far as to say it should lock empty slots as well.
