ZSU 57-2 says hi. also ZSU 37-2 with 80mm of AP is also more then enough to kill anything from the side. Also Gepard is 8.3, LtPsv is 8.7.
all Oerlikon KDA have at most 40 rounds (20 per barrel) of APDS, DCA has way more in its mixed belts.
that was there real life ability, for self defense. plus they have a massive ammo rack with goes thermo nuclear even when its almost empty. ( I’ve had a detonation with only 40 total rounds left)
shall we remove all HE-VT from arty then, because its meant for air burst above the ground not for shooting aircraft. (a more reliable option to standard time fuze).
shall we remove or reduce all ATGM’s on USSR / CHN MBT’s. because the rest have only the Falaric on SWE event and Premium or the two French ACRA or the shillelagh, most need to stop to be able to fire, except Falaric.
if the USSR had APDS on their vehicles you can bet Gaijin would have added them in a heart beat.
both USSR top tier, being the Tunguska and the Pantsir have guns while all other at that tier don’t. (except USA ADATS)
All USSR SPAAG’s with SAM’s have “FREE” missiles, while others have to pay for theirs, the cake going to the very lack luster IDF Chaparal with over 900 SL per upgraded SAM (still only 16.5G). only end of the line SPAAG’s get free top tier missile.
I’m not complaining about AP rounds at all. I think every nation should have them to give their SPAA some pen against armoured planes (and vehicles, too). Thats the point of the A and the P in AP, y’know?
Also the only Premium SPAA, and to me that thing is pretty much what a premium should be in this game, not copy-paste spam, just intresting one-offs and rare vehicles. ngl
APFSDS rounds – Can penetrate light and some medium tanks at the sides and some spots the front. even at pretty steep angles.
High velocity & accuracy – Easier to hit aircraft at range.
Better survivability – More armor than most SPAAGs, decent crew layout. A spall liner.
Thermals & optics – Great for spotting air and ground targets.
Decent speed & mobility – Faster than many SPAAGs, easy to reposition.
prettyyy Versatile – Can fight both air and ground targets pretty effectively. Helicopters are usually the easier to deal with. The HE-VT does have low damage and it kindof needs the 3P ammunition to be better, but what can we do?
It trades some SPAAG traits for better ground capability and situational flexibility.
Soooo, in my opinion. Its actually a good spaa, that doesent really act as an SPAA. its just a IFV converted into SPAA as it functions in-game rn
May be off topic but you mentioned some other points regarding new modules,
The presence of a APDS belt in most or all of the 35 mm caliber SPAAG is, for me, nothing gamebreaking, it’s one of the ways to engage heavier targets, in such battle rating where you’ll face a lot, the 40 rounds can be handy — I suppose you haven’t played those guns, but if you do you know that even the AP-I, with the damage they do, isn’t enough against a T-54, Type 69 or a M60 up front. Yesterday I managed to get 5 destroyed ground targets and 1 destroyed air target,
It doesn’t means the vehicle is broken, actually I played with the worst of all, the Type 87 SPAAG, which is very, very slow, even, I could get 5 destroyed ground targets which I believe 4 of this number were using the APDS rounds, they deal so much damage you only need a very short burst of 4 to 2 rounds (2 and 1 each cannon) to knockout a vehicle. Does it means this feature is broken? No, should the vehicles it has be changed? No. In my opinion you need to have something to unbalance the environment to create a better balance, I mean you need to sacrifice one thing to get another, in this case is the 35 mm DM23 rounds existance.
Regarding the other topic, I believe that the existence of the APDS rounds in 35 mm automatic cannons isn’t the problem, but the modules those vehicles features — The extra module update was great I can’t lie but regarding the ItPsV 90, Gepard 1, Gepard 1A2, Type 87 SPAAG and PGZ09 SPAAG just made those vehicles more resistant to enemy retaliation, even if you directly hit in the turret, usually you only destroy mechanical and eletronic equipment and only one of the two crewmembers are affected. I believe Gaijin could review this minor issue, making the engagements against those vehicles less frustrating.
It’s a mess. In my opinion is the best from all Strf 9040s in the game, it’s actually useful and the 40 mm Bofors feels to punchy. But when I mean is a mess, it shouldn’t be labeled as a SPAA but light tank. Throwing a bucket on top of a IFV and renaming to to “Anti-air Cannon” won’t help when you’re limited to only 24 rounds and doesn’t have scouting mechanic.
