Removal of Japanese Ho-Ri SPGs from the Research Tree and Sale

That’s surprising.

They very clearly do play the game. I ended up fighting both Schindibee and Stona doing the naval event in coastal a couple days ago. Watch BVVD on the Russian dev stream and it’s clear he plays it as well.

This whole “they don’t play their own game” is just a stupid meme that people parrot without ever questioning it.

If that were true, then the A6M6C would not be 5.7. An aircraft that has one of the slowest engines in-game. → Key word is “The,” as I im aware there are slower aircraft. But in terms of 5.7.
It functions as a 3.7->4.0 in terms of how slow it is. The only plus size it has is 3 13.2mm HMG’s, and the 2 20mm’s.

So perhaps you are right, and they do, and im not going to claim or blindly think they don’t.
However, it’s very clear that many vehicles, and not strictly Japanese, are still in BR brackets where their combat capability is nullified by aircraft or aircraft variants that were designed to supersede them.

That said, I won’t dive anymore, since it’s going off topic from the Ho-Ri, which at this point is what, 11 days left, till it’s hidden despite the massive brew this has stirred.

Oh, and P.S using Grammarly to fix the punctuation, which I normally miss all the time.

Not this again, please. You can simply check any player here (just be aware, that some of us are using different account on forum due to forum system requirements).
It’s not that hard.

It has nothing to the topic, so please return to “Ho-Ri” discussion.

You know exactly why it’s 5.7. Inexperienced players intuit very little about BnZ and energy fighting, they just default to horizontal turn on anything they see, this creates a turn fighting meta in which some planes excel.

BRs are based on performance. Since no vehicle in the game plays itself, it is the players that determine BRs. If you want turn fighters to go down in BR you have to ask American mains to get better at ARB.

I took it for granted they weren’t going to back down. They didn’t for the R2Y2s nor for the three removed German vehicles. It’s incredibly sad. At least I got the Ho-Ris in time. All I can do is hope that some day, we’ll see these vehicles return in some fashion.

Seen from a POV of player parity and competitive balance, it is criminal to remove these vehicles. They remain super popular with veteran players and are spammed all the time, but newer players can no longer access them, or even view them in protection analysis. So because I was already playing the game, I’ll get to have a highly protected and competitively mobile spearhead Japanese vehicle with access to overpressure-APHE, but if a poor sod starts playing Japan six months from now, he or she doesn’t have that option. All they will have at 7.3 is one M47 and one Type 99, completely different playstyles from the Ho-Ri.

Rules for thee and not for me.

Oh, so it’s not the vehicle, but a player issue.
Crazy; perhaps Gaijin could make the effort and attempt to solve the actual roots of the issue, instead of just changing BRs, which 1: Does not fix the problem. Thank you for enlightening me on what I already know.

Aside from that, it’s probably the reason why the Ho-Ri is about to go bye-bye, a vehicle that still has several historically accurate replacements that were in an early stage to eventually get there.

3, in fact, which all fulfill the same 3 aspects that the Ho-Ri proto and product fulfilled in one vehicle.
Ho-Ri I->Ranged Support.
Ho-Ri II: Defensive Support.
Ho-Ri III->Spearheading and breaking the enemy’s ability to zerg rush you. Oh, and Anti-Air support? Which makes me chuckle.

Better and extensive tutorialisation would ameliorate the issue. It would not solve it though, because a new player is not necessarily willing to commit to an explanation of complex concepts. Still, I’m 100% in favour of that.

However…

This is a F2P MMO. Objective #1 is to keep lobbies populated with free players while monetising the others. Full lobbies are the conditio sine qua non for a game like this. So it is 100% in their interest to balance by player statistic. In their perfect ideal world, every player and every vehicle is always at around 50% WR (and chosen metrics of SL/RP gain).

This being a PVP game, if you balance vehicles in any way other than player statistics, you will just get a lot of frustrated players who’ll quit the game early on.

Nah it has nothing to do with player competitiveness, it’s because of the game’s USP which is selling (the illusion of) realism. They got misled by Mai Waffentraeger about the Ho-Ris and they eventually gave up on giving them more grounded remodels/replacements. Germany never got true replacements for its three removed vehicles and it’s been 7 years now. Safe to say Japan will never get these replacements either.

I’ve said it many times before that I am strongly pro “paper” vehicles in the game so long as they were real projects worked on by real engineers (admittedly both Ho-Ris as well as the Panther II and the Tiger II 105 would need extensive remodelling to fit even that description, while the Coelian basically fits it). Alas the devs disagree.

Just makes me so sad to see these vehicles gone. Even if the Ho-Ris at least I have secured, it is unfair that I get to play them whenever I want, while newer players will simply never, ever have access to that experience.

This is one of the worst decisions for Japan, ever. The Type 75 and Type 99 are 155mm HE slingers, not a casemate SPH that has 200mm of pen. The worst thing is that there is not good replacement that will likely be added. The O-1 is said to not have enough technical information, and the Ho-Ri 2 and 3 are almost certainly not going to be added. September 1st will be Ho-Rible day

11 Minutes until the death of the Ho-Ri, I played my last battle with it before it becomes unobtainable. Here’s some pictures

I got a full uptier, and my ping got to almost 200 lol, classic snail.
Rest in peace Ho-Ri, you served me, and millions of players well🫡. Gone like a true Samurai, quietly in the night.

I don’t think that’s quiet how Samurai are supposed to go out…
Regardless another unique part of Japans tree gone only to leave a gapping hole in the TT under the idiotic excuse that a paper armoured HE derp gun “fills the same role”.

Poetic/Artistic License, I had to make it be meaningful, even if it meant being historically inaccurate.
Nonetheless, a Ho-Rible day for War Thunder and the Japanese Tech Tree.

Interesting that they moved the Ho-Ri out of the main TT.
