where are you getting this number from? you can easily lose 20-60 kmh in a turn depeding on the vehicle.(go test any ariete mbt)
even in your example clips you lose 20-30 speed in every 90 degree turn.

The turning radius can be predicted from the values ​​in the configuration file without needing to perform actual tests.
Under the current mechanism, the acceleration and deceleration of the tracks are calculated based on the gearRatios and neutralGearRatio values.

For example, using the parameters shown in this image, the neutralGearRatio axis reaches a maximum of 19.66 RPM; the transmission output shaft runs at 20.65 RPM in 1st gear and 30.77 RPM in 2nd gear.

In 1st gear, the ratio is 19.66:20.65 (1.05), meaning the vehicle turns with a radius 1.05 times its width.
In 2nd gear, the ratio is 19.66:30.77 (1.57), meaning the vehicle turns with a radius 1.57 times its width.

The current configuration file for the Challenger 1 is set up as follows. The neutralGearRatio is set to 15; however, this is a placeholder value that Gaijin has long used, and it needs to be changed to a value that accurately reproduces the real vehicle’s turning radius when implementing a double-differential steering system.

Ahhh so I guess i could plot the values vs the real ones and find the value of double diff ratio that would be required.

When considering the implementation of a double-differential steering system, the presence of the torque converter a feature Gaijin has previously sidelined can no longer be ignored.

For instance, the Leopard 2 has only four forward gears thanks to its torque converter.
However, since WT lacks torque converter mechanics, Gaijin has attempted to simulate the effect by increasing the transmission to eight gears as a stopgap measure. This approach conflicts with the double-differential steering system, the operation of which is closely tied to the number of gear stages.

Furthermore, early versions of American cross-drive steering systems suffer from a quirk where torque converter “slip” causes the minimum turning radius to fluctuate in complex ways. Accurately replicating this behavior would likely require a faithful simulation of the torque converter itself.

Agreed, hopefully by pushing for regen to come it will encourage other features to be introduced too.

And have you got anything to say about a Type 10-like implementation of Regenerative Steering?

I just made a comprehensive video driving across Poland with it.

Yesterday, I did have trouble with Leopard 2; but with Type 10, I believe NO ONE can deny that it’s just the best of both worlds. Agility at lower speeds is unchanged, while no speed or energy at all is lost.

Like I say in the video, Leopard 2’s configuration just needs to be polished, and the issues that affect the mechanic as of now, solved. When that happens, it will be perfect whether you are driving across a field or in the streets of a city.

  1. In the first scenario, I lost 20~ km/h, but made the turn without any issues and kept going. With the new mechanic, the player lost 50 km/h and could only turn the tank after coming to a complete stop.

  2. In the second scenario, I lost 20~ km/h and was able to turn the tank with no issues. The player with the new mechanics crashed into a building without losing any speed(🤭).

  3. In the third scenario, I lost 25~ km/h, made the turn smoothly, and kept going. Meanwhile, a player using the new mechanic had to drop 25~ km/h by braking before the turn, since that was the only way to actually make the turn.

  4. In the fourth case, I lost 20~ km/h, turned the tank without any issues, and kept driving. Meanwhile, the player using the new mechanic had to slow down by 20~ km/h before the turn just to make it.

  5. In the fifth situation, I lost 15–25~ km/h, making the turn without any problems and continuing to move. A player with the new mechanics had to drive in CC1 mode in order to be able to turn.

A separate keybind for brake turning would be really nice to have (Id personally bind it to double tap A/D)

But do you not understand that there is a fundamental problem that you cannot slow down whilst steering currently?
That inevitably means you will turn in wide arcs and makes it hard to control.

If the devs intend to stay try to realism then brake turning can’t be used.
However being able to throttle back whilst steering is a MUST.

Exactly.

The main issue now is that, if you try to make a tighter turn at, say, 20 km/h, and even if you stop pressing W, the tank just keeps accelerating indefinitely to its top speed and therefore wider turning radius, unless forcing it with CC, which is suboptimal.

The overall situation is absurd. You say the current mechanics (the ones live on the main servers) are bad because tanks lose speed while turning, yet you want a mechanic added where we have to manually brake ourselves just to make a turn.😂

Just checking if I should make a bug report about the lack of throttle control.
It’s listed here amongst some other bugs. But based on the response you made for the reports on bombers feedback was preferred rather than bug reports?

I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to partially apply the brakes to both tracks and as the one track is no longer powered it’d stop while the other would continue turning

I say that having the CHOICE of when to slow down is preferred.
Currently brake turn guarantees slowing down.
Current regen steering guarantees you cannot slow down
Real steering means you can do both.

Wait, it doesn’t seem to be the case anymore!

Which is weird, since there was no update as far as I know, but look;

I stopped pressing W at 21 km/h, and instead pressed only A. And it kept turning at 25 km/h without accelerating endlessly, like yesterday!

The turning radius is still too wide for the low speed, but…

Now that is strange, somebody else says bombers felt less survivable today and hesh is working too. Maybe a server side update?

Are you suggesting to add 2 new keys in the settings just to do what was previously possible by simply pressing A and D.

Sorry, but I’m not going to vote for making the controls more complicated.
