It’s the same excuse as the “keep APHE as it is crowd” they assumed all we were getting from the APHE changes was what was on the dev server, when Gaijin specifically said the vote was to test multiple rounds of APHE changes.
All they see is “it’s worse now and will never change”.
To be fair, Gaijin made the APHE poll first and showed it off as a devblog before even letting users test it, and also cuz ppl like to insta kill with their miracle APHE sphere.
Regen steering as of right now is a lot more 50/50, but still could be better implemented and worked on.
I am once again reposting this to showcase just how big of a difference in scenarios like this that can actually benefit from having regenerative/double differential steering. We shouldn’t let a bad implementation get in the way of a highly potential net positive in the long run.
The steering system on the current DEV server has a bug that generates extra torque, so I think it is premature to draw conclusions based on a performance comparison.
We need to bear in mind the absurd situation where an extra engine effectively kicks in only while turning; naturally, this gives it an advantage over the live server.
Gaijin has explicitly stated that the dual-differential steering system is being added as a “test,” and it does not appear that this feature will be introduced to the live server immediately. We should take our time and discuss this matter more calmly.
It’s not exactly that premature to draw any form of conclusion, despite the bug. The whole point of regenerative steering is to show that the tanks lose less speed overall making corners and turns and that’s pretty much shown here in their so called “best case” scenarios.
To be fair, Gaijin has an absolutely massive track record of just leaving things from the dev server as they are when the update releases.
There is a reason why the phrase “it’s only the dev server, it will change before release” is such a meme nowadays. Players are right to be cautious when it comes to Gaijin.
It seems you don’t understand what mobility actually means.
With the old steering mechanics you lose 5–10 km/h when driving at high speed, but with the new mechanics you will lose 20–30 km/h every time you need to turn the tank 90 degrees. This is not an improvement in mobility, but a deterioration of it.
If it gets removed i hope it at least stays on Type 10 it mostly fixed one ofnthe biggest issues with that tank now if only theh also increased its acceleration as well itd be perfect.

I doubt anything can be improved in this case. The essence of the mechanic is that each gear has its own turning radius, meaning that to make a 90-degree turn, you will have to bring the tank to a stop regardless.
Losing 5–10 km/h at high speeds isn’t a serious enough issue to give up the familiar controls and switch to a mechanic that, in turn, introduces a new (and more serious) problem.
Indeed, but currently you cannot slow down whilst steering, you can only accelerate which makes this issue 10x worse.
Forcing you to use cruise control to limit gear ratio’s.
